Professor is no show!!

After a tough morning of getting the booth removed of my car the time to go to class was getting closer and closer. Although it was 10 minutes before class, I decided to go to class early, this was the first time I was gonna show up to class early! As I looked towards the teacher's desk, to my surprise, he hadn't arrived yet, I was shocked to notice this because I always thought the teacher would arrive before anyone from this class. Since this was my first time arriving early, I looked around to see how many were also here early, and there was only 5 other people, 2 of them which had their laptops open. As soon as I sat down, I turned to see what the two guys with the laptops open were doing, to my surprise, one of them was playing "slither.io", which he seemed to be doing really good on that game, judging based on the size of the worm, and the other one was playing some game that involved tanks.
As the time for class start time was getting closer, more and more people were arriving, by the time it was 10:30, almost all students were here, except the professor. After a few minutes of sitting in silence, my friend arrived a little bit of late, and as he stared at the professors desk, he stated, "wow, and I thought I was late", after nobody responded he went to sit down at his usual seat. After a few minutes since my friend sat down, he got impatient and said out loud, "did he even sent an email", referring to the teacher, as everyone looked through their phones, finally someone responded and said, "no, he didn't". As soon as 15 minutes had passed since the time class was supposed to start, my friend got really impatient, and said, "you know what I'm gonna leave". As left many people got up and left along, as time was passing by more and more people were starting to leave, until only me and 4 other people were left.
After looking through my Facebook for a few minutes, I finally got tired and left.

The Hospital

Saturday night around 10 pm my mom was feeling really sick no one else was at home just me and her. I desided to take it to the hospital and that gave me a good i dea to write  notes and  write this journal entrie i was there at the hospital for almost 1 hour after mom got to see a doctor even in the emergency area they were busy. But before that i was able to hear some comverstions some were normal other not so normal.

The first conversation was between a family that took her doughter because she ate a crayon. The wife was asking his husband how she was doing, for some reason just one of them were able to go in a see her i believe. He answer her shes doing fine the doctor said she vomited the crayon 20 minutes after the xrays that they did. The wife asked what were the xrays for. He then answer because the doctor wanted to make shure she didnt ate any other toys or toxic materials. The couple were called after a wile by the doctor after that  i dont know what happen.

The second conversation was between two guys just visiting a friend that had an accident  they were waiting for another guy that was still in the room with the injured friend as they were telling each other in spanish ´´´como tarda este guey´´ translated without the bad word meaning that his friend was taking too long. They were talking on how dumb his friend was because he run a red light, pretty clear that caused the accident. They were then talking about the soccer game final of leicester city a final soccer game match they were arguing about how the match was going to be a great one and how leicester city had no chance against the other team i was not able to catch the other team name. they kept talking about the soccer game for wile then hos friend showed up and they left.

i awkardly moved seats to a more crowded area to be able to listen to more conversation then i saw thi woman looking worried i saw a doctor come sit next to her and they started talking on how bad her husban was. i wasnt able to hear what kind of sickness the poorman had but i was able to hear the some decisions the wife make for him. the first thing she agreed on was to let the doctor aministrade his husband a blood tranfusion after the surgery. then she agree to the doctor for her to donate the blood for him. the doctor then left to prepare for the procedures. After 15 minutes the woman  was called. after that i got called to see my mother and after a few paper work she was released already feeling better.

you gotta be quicker than that!

I’m waiting to meet up with some friends.  This morning is a little colder than I expected it to be. I was one of the late arrivals at the coffee shop, because when I got there, it was super packed.  I wait on line eyeing the only table that’s open.  I look away for one second to look back and see a little old lady had snatched the table.  So I take my number and enjoy the sunlight outside.  A table inside opens up so I quickly make my way to sit down, just in time for my order to be brought out to me.  Over the past month, I have started to feel like a regular because of how many times I have been here. The shop workers recognize this as well.  They pretty much have my order memorize, and they have become more personal with me.  They ask how my day will be and if I need anything else.  That’s more than the typical get your order and thank you very much attitude I got when I first started coming here.

By the time I had settled down, the shop had done the same.  More than half of the costumers had left leaving only 4 occupied tables.  All of the tables surprisingly were ruled by people 60 and above.

The table closest to me sits a balding man. He is sitting there with a book and a golfer’s sun hat laying on the table.  He seems like he can’t concentrate. He seems very jittery and is not really looking at his book.  He looks at everyone that walks by his table, and is easily distracted by sounds in the shop like the closing of the register and the sliding of chairs.  He finally starts turning some pages as the shop comes to a slower pace.

The table next to the balding man is another older man who is also reading a book.  As the server brings out his order of bananas and yogurt, he gets the biggest smile on his face.  It was a nice gesture, but at the same time I think he was just happy to get his food.  With a little sprinkle of brown sugar on top of his breakfast, he continues reading his book. He only continues eating his breakfast only when he finds an appropriate stopping point in his book.

The little old lady that jacked my table.  How could I be mad at her? She is just too little and filled with joy when her friends join her at the table.  Her friends could have possibly been coworkers.  The servers were calling her Dr. when she was ordering her breakfast. They also were asking about classes which gave me a pretty clear picture of what she does.  The four women talked chit chat a little bit before they started talking about more serious matters.  All of them pulled out daily calendar books filled with little pink post it notes, and discussed their upcoming events.

A couple replaces the table where the balding man sat before.  The lady sits down with a burrito and a chai tea.  Her husband joins her with his coffee.  Both make small talk as they both read different newspapers.  The lady has a bag with yarn in it, most likely purchased from the store that’s next door.  I thought that maybe the wife had been here before. But I don’t think her husband was familiar with the place.  I found his choice of clothes was interesting.  He was wearing oil stained jeans, with a work shirt that was held up with some suspenders.  He topped it all off with a camo hat.  He wasn’t typically what you would see in this shop, but hey, who cares, neither am I probably. Most people might find his attire a little gross, but I see it as respect.  He’s a hardworking man and his clothes aren’t dingy for nothing.  They got that way from working with his hands.  So is he embarrassed that he walked in the shop looking like this? No.  Should he be? Hell no.  I have been lucky enough to growing up with oily pairs of jeans layered with dust.  Some would be embarrassed for him, but that’s because they care about what they look like. I applaud him, because he is part of a dying breed.  More and more, I see people struggling with simple everyday tasks like changing a tire or changing the oil of their vehicles.  I have noticed one thing about observing people.  They are becoming more and more consumed in technology.  They rely on it too much and struggle to do everyday tasks such as these.  They rely on other people to do it so they tend to not worry about it.  So what’s going to happen when all the older people that do these tasks are gone? I have just been lucky enough to learn ways of relying on myself for getting stuff done.  I guess instead of getting mad, I educate people on it. Maybe someone will look up from their phone and listen.

The shop had started to pick up again as it hits the brunch hour. There is a variety of people in here now.  One dude is typing a rather lengthy email while he drinks coffee out of his own thermos.  I guess the shops coffee isn’t good enough for some.

A young couple in their 20’s is in earshot of me.  From what I can hear, they had a pretty late night last night and ended up staying at the boyfriend’s brother’s house.  They looked pretty rough as well.  The girlfriend was wearing sunglasses inside and she was carrying her overnight bag along with a makeup pouch.  The boyfriend had a super case of bed head as he downed his cup of coffee as fast as possible.  They discussed going back to the house to do a better job of cleaning up the house before they left town.  The girlfriend quickly agreed because she wanted to go back and look for her nose ring that had gone missing during the night.

Well my friends have finally shown up.  Time for me to catch up and relax.  Maybe I’ll be a subject of observation now.  Or maybe I have been ….

Don’t let Finals get You Down, Stay Strong!

Don’t let Finals get You Down, Stay Strong!

It’s not as busy as I expected it to be at Blake’s this morning. There are only three people here other than myself. A small blonde girl is sitting in the far left corner of the room. She appears to be watching a movie or maybe a TV show on her laptop. There is a bearded man sitting more towards the center of the room. He has an engineering book cracked open and seems to be hard at work. Neither Blondie nor mountain man seem to be paying attention to their surroundings as they are deeply focused on their own tasks. A large black fellow is sitting two seats in to the right of Blondie with head phones in and is jotting down notes almost in a panicked fashion. There’s a new vibe in the room today and as far as I can it’s the essence of stress. Nearing finals everyone appears to be either cramming or trying to find a little bit of time to send their mind elsewhere.

As blondie seems to be the most interesting character in the room, I point my attention towards her clothing. She is wearing faded SpongeBob pajama pants and a pink John Deere hoodie. Her overall appearance seems to be confident and relaxed. Every so often I hear her laugh at her show but other than that she doesn’t seem to show much emotion. I start to bore from studying Blondie so I have now pointed my attention towards Mountain Man. I see him going over the same page with his finger over and over again. As an engineer myself, I understand the struggle. Shortly after I hear an alarm on his phone and by my guess it is time for him to leave. To my surprise he hits the snooze button and carries on. Denzel has now closed his laptop and began playing a game on his phone. I can see how focused he is on this game because he hasn’t blinked in the past 2 minutes. He starts to tilt his phone to the left and right and the thrusts it forward. My guess is that he is playing Temple Run.

Blondie seems to have finished her show and begins to pack up her stuff. She looks at her phone and shakes her head and then slowly walks out. Mountain Man’s alarm has now gone off for the second time so he takes that as his Q and begins to pack up as well. As he packs his belongings I realize that I met him three years ago when we were freshman. It turns out a beard can camouflage just about anyone. He looks at me and by his lack of a nod I don’t think he recognizes me. Denzel is no longer playing games on his phone. By the looks of it he has decided to take a nap. Which doesn’t sound bad at all.

Unfortunately, nothing exciting has happened today and that wraps up my time here.

Bad way to end the weekend

It is a Saturday night about to be Sunday, I got a call around 11 to meet up with my friends in McDonald's to go eat and then plan out to what to do for the rest of the night. It was a quite night, I'm guessing because everybody is out clubbing so the streets are mostly clear with no traffic. I get to McDonald's way too early so I had no choice but to wait  it was going to be probably 20 minutes until my friends show up. From the outside I could see that it was half way full so it was a good thing since there was not going to be that much noise, well not exactly.

At a booth table there is this group of white people dressed looking like if they barely got of the office so I'm guessing they were business men. Unfortunately there a little bit loud, it was a continuous group conversation of 6 men going at it with not even taking a break to catch their breath, it felt like if I was in an auction with a bunch of fast talkers. Well this kept going for another 15 minutes but my friends are still not showing up, after a while I decided to try and listen to their conversation, sadly it was just about politics oh well it's my least favorite subject. I gave up too early, but luckily I heard some of the comments they were bringing to the table It was about Donald Trump's plan in which they were supporting it, that seriously got me in a angry emotion and already hating those guys.

I was there already for 30 minutes with both my patience and tolerance running low, surely i get this message from saying that they were not on their way so in other words they bailed out on me. That is already 2 for 2, it was such an angry and disappointing night that I just went home and slept in a bad mood hoping for Sunday to be a better day which wasn't.

Auction

Leaving towards Roswell, NM for an agriculture auction there was a lot of problems. It was a long and boring drive leaving at 4 in the morning so we could make it there by the time the auction started. The roads seemed like a movie where there are not any people around. Getting to Roswell the first thing seen is that all stores and restaurants had something about aliens. I also realized that the auction was a few miles north of Roswell. Not really at the city itself. The road that led to the auction was extremely narrow and it was a dirt road. The kind of road that could only be traveled by off road vehicles. We were surprised to find that this road was leading us to the middle of no where. On our old Heavy Duty truck we were driving along the road and there were other trucks coming in our direction and we both had to get out of the road in order to pass each other. When we arrived at the auction there were so many big trucks most of them being Super Dutys. The ranchers brought large trailers to move the equipment that they were going to buy. Everybody was bidding on the big tractors and I was so hungry I had to go eat but of course the closest place to eat was Roswell. I drove through the rough terrain until I saw a Burger King that was close by and stopped to eat right there. The first thing I noticed was that they called me boss when I was ordering my food. The service was excellent for a fast food restaurant like that. You could see that there were many people there going to eat because of how they treated people. There was a lady that would just stare at me the whole time I was there. She seemed as if she had never seen a cowboy around. I later needed so get a sandwich for somebody else at McDonalds and there was an old lady around half of my size and it seemed as if she barely got the McDonalds job and was still learning how to input orders onto the computer. She was pretty sweet and told me what I was up to here at Roswell. I just said that I was here for farm equipment auction and I actually got a discount. I thought everybody in Roswell was very caring and helpful. When I was getting my drink there was a brunette girl that said she liked my boots and she has been wanting to buy some but the closest western store is literally in Artesia, NM and that is over 45 minutes away. She started to talk to me while I waited for the sandwich and it seemed like she was with her brothers there. She was around 5'7 and had greenish eyes. I noticed that she kind of wanted to flirt but I told her I lived in Las Cruces and she got sad. I would understand why though. It seems as if Roswell doesn't have that many people. At the end I got the sandwich and went back to the auction and we left with a truck full of empty air. So it didn't go too well because there really was not anything that we wanted so we left empty handed

AP Testing

Blonde girl then picks up a plastic bag next to her and says to green shirt "I got all this paper for a project. gonna go crazy" and dives back into the friend drama. sweatpants is observing the room, not really doing anything but sighing. the sub stands up from his desk and looks at the big group whose current topic is Mexico. "go to Mexico and buy that stuff easy" someone says. lady then stands up and speaks to the sub for a moment before leaving the class. pretty girl and delta nununu are on their phones but delta nununu seems to be working on the assignment at the same time. "I've been to Mexico 5 times" someone from the big group says. "dude you've never been to Mexico Mexico" and the topic is now being mugged everywhere in Mexico but Mexico city. the subs stands up again and starts to walk around the class a bit.  tooth asks delta nununu a question which she replies "haha I always bring my book". country then ruptures my attention "so which parts of Mexico is not Mexico?". at this time the sub has made his way to the big group is standing next to them, but says nothing. to the next of me green shirt is showing blonde girl something on her phone and laughs "i like you guys. you're so easy to entertain". sweatpants then joins the girls conversation for a couple of minutes. Sophmore and pretty girl are on their phones. Lady then returns to the class and sits back down. by this time Everest and black shirt are on the topic about retiring, which the sub (still standing next to them) joins in on. tooth then glances over to the group while sweatpants sighs and lifts his arms, rubbing them a bit before making a comment to the girl duo's conversation. mustache is eating chips while the rest of the group is talking and tooth yet again glances over to them before asking delta nununu about the assignment. Pretty girl, lady, and sweatpants are still on their phone. the big group is still talking, but the sub is now quiet and stands over them. the girls next to me are also still talking. sweatpants then starts to rub his hands which green shirt mimics "stop, you're making my head hurt" complains sweatpants. green shirt smiles and ignores him, continuing to mimic him for a bit before going back to talking to blonde girl who was watching the whole thing go down. my interest shifts back to the big group, where the sub is talking about his time in Vietnam. tooth glances over to the group. green shirt to the right of me is still mimicking sweatpants and blonde girl is on her phone. tooth then turns to delta asks why shes doing her work "so I don't have to do it later, i have so much work" delta nununu replies before going back to her work. tooth glances at the big group who are now taking about taxes. sweatpants is picking at his hands . suddenly black shirt remarks "she's taking good notes", making the big group and the sub to look at me as I raise a thumbs up as a reply. the sub then makes a joke about how I am writing about how the class is not paying attention. sweatpants and delta nununu start to talk about the bad road construction near campus is, remarking that "it's like the just spray painted it black". meanwhile blonde girl is playing a video for green shirt next to me and the sub moves from the big group to delta nununu and talks to her for a bit before sitting back down at his desk. The current topic of the big group is now about driving. the sub gets up from his desk and walks over to lady and says "that quiz not bad is it?" "aaahhh, ill knock it out" she replies while stretching. the sub then goes next ot the big group again. sweatpants is on his phone and blonde girl is still showing green shirt something on her phone. black shirt then makes a remark to country girl "you don't want to see it" resulting in a flurry of voices and I am too slow to write down what they're actually saying. the sub then walks to where I am sitting and attempts to make small talk with me before giving up (tooth glances over quite a bit during this exchange).

Finals Week Is In The Air

As I go to my usual spot on the second floor of Corbett, I turn to see if the two friends that I had seen twice before are in their spot. They are not. Even though it's not the exact same seat as last time, I find a chair that is in the same area of where I normally sit. I notice that there aren't too many people around right now. Maybe it's because it's Friday afternoon. It seems as if there are less people on campus on Fridays. Maybe it's because people try to get classes that don't meet on Fridays or it might be because some people just don't go to class because they want to start their weekends earlier. I would like to be able to not have to go to class on Fridays but if I were to miss too many classes my grade would drop… Maybe people who miss Friday classes don't have class attendance points because if they did, they probably wouldn't miss too many classes. Anyways, there are a few groups of people meeting. Some are eating their lunches, some are working on class work, and others are just interested in their phones - the same three activities I notice going on every week that I have been doing observations. There is a girl sitting to the left of me who is working on her computer. She must be typing a paper because she's just typing, typing, typing away. Maybe it's an end of the year project that she's working on. There's got to be a lot that going on right now being that there is only one more week of classes then it's finals week. I'm actually pretty surprised that the campus seems as empty as it does because you would think that there would be more people who would be spending their time studying and wanting to do so on campus because you can actually focus here. As I think about finals, I start to feel anxious. I have so much studying to do and I feel like I don't have the amount of time that I need to get it all done. Everyone is probably feeling the same way. I look around and everyone who is working on something seem to be pretty concentrated and invested in what they are doing. They are probably feeling the same way as I am. Everyone else however, seem so calm and with not a care in the world. Maybe they feel prepared and calm for the next couple of weeks or maybe they just don't really care and just want the semester to be over with. I'm pretty torn between the two feeling but I am feeling more anxious because of the amount of studying that I need to get done in order to get decent grades. I'm graduating this May so I have to make sure that I pass my classes. I look around and wonder how many of these people will be graduating as well. It's pretty exciting but also nerve-racking because of the amount of pressure it puts on me for my current classes. The girl next to me is still typing like crazy. Now there is a guy and a girl who are siting to the right of me. They aren't working on anything, they aren't even looking at their phones. They are actually having a conversation. They seem to be talking about some of their other friends or people who they have class with. I know that I haven't really mentioned anything about people using electronic devices too much for this weeks observations and that's because it's just as much as it always is- I just didn't want to talk to much about that this time. This week does feel different however, and I think it's just because finals week is approaching and people are starting to focus on studying more.

Deaf or not we are still the same

It's a warm Saturday night, I'm sitting and reading eating my snacks I saved throughout the day. People are around me eating and talking loud not realizing that people are there to study and sleep. As time goes on more people start to leave and there is silence around the area I am sitting down. As I finish the last snack I have before I turn in my assignment, a couple of people walk towards where I am sitting and I'm just thinking here goes the time I needed to do my homework. But little did I know that I wouldn't have that problem for one simple fact, they were deaf.

Excusing two people out of the six who can converse with one another through words  it was very joyful and entertaining. Let alone I cannot speak my own heritages language but learning what they were talking about was fascinating. You can see a girl in pink and a boy in red conversing in what I call my everyday language but for the others they were moving their hands in a motion that I could not comprehend. The most I understood was the letter one and two if that was even what they were talking about. As time goes by it seems like the party is still going on for them in this late night. I was trying to figure out why they were here so late but left alone as its none of my business.

Soon I hear in the distance the boy in red saying, “ I wish we could of came here sooner if everyone would of stopped staring at us as if we didn't know what they were doing.” I was confused as to why these people were in the group as they could talk regularly. Then I see the girl go up to one of them and started signing something but towards the end she goes up to the boy in red and says, “ my sister said we can go home they'll be fine.” The boy was hesitant but agreed and followed the girl to the entrance and left the four people all by themselves. You can tell it was difficult for them as one of the went to ask a question but the man at the desk could only tell him to write it down on a piece of paper so he could understand. It's heartbreaking to see as I'm watching and carefully making sure they cannot notice me staring.

The four of them start playing games like charades, hide and seek, and more as there was no one but me on the floor. I felt awkward but assignments don't do themselves or else I would not be here right now. They are having so much fun until a police officer ask them quietly to calm down. I don't see the point as no one is here but me and it made me feel bad but it is what it is. The four of them sit down and converse through sign language most likely talking about that police officers bald head. It makes your eyes open on how you think if a person with a disability will still do the things everyone else does.

The night is beginning to get later and I start packing my things to head home. These four people decide to call it quits to I believe as they all leave together leaving nothing but pure joy and happiness in this building. And I am the one leaving with stress and anxiety for this major grade. It goes to show you that no matter what every human being acts the same way  to an extent of making fun of those who kill their fun.

Starbucks

Starbuck's on Sunday is a lot like the library. Filled with students studying and doing homework. It seems like everyone has a computer or a tablet out for what I am assuming is homework. The table right next to me is filled with the math team. A group of students who are working tirelessly on their math homework. Unfortunately I can not understand what they are talking about because they are asking there questions to each other in a different language. I am beginning to recognize the regulars at Starbucks. JS is in her spot by the window with her headphones in studying while drinking her venti coffee. The only time that Starbucks doesn't seem as quiet as the library is when one of JS's friends come up to her and begin to talk about what they did this weekend. Tonight they are talking about the country music festival and which performances they enjoyed the most. The two girls talk about Cam's performance and that they really enjoyed it. JS also talks about how she enjoyed some of the lesser known country music artists that were there like Chris Baker. She talks about how her and her sister had a great time hanging out at the festival this weekend and how they wished that they could go to more live concerts and events like the Las Cruces Country Music Festival. The other conversations that I can here are about what student 1 and student 2's plans are for the summer. They are talking about how they can't wait to be back home. To just get away from school and being able to relax without worrying about if something is due on canvas that night. While student 2 talks about how he is staying here and going to work this summer in order to help pay for his study abroad in the spring semester next year. They both talk about how they are excited about school being over in two weeks though. Of course there are a few non students in Starbucks who are just getting there coffee and leaving. Some of them sit and talk to each other in the corner where the new drinks are brought out. They are too far away for me to make out what they are saying. However it is easy to see that some people are enjoying the conversations while others want no part in conversing with others. When it gets silent I can here the orders of the new people in line and the noise from behind the counter. The sounds of dishes being dropped and cups being filled and the occasional laugh of a barista. When I got up to order my first drink I was in line behind someone who could not make up their mind about what to drink. So they asked the barista what they would recommend. The barista is of course polite and asks the customer if they want something warm or cold. The customer answers that they would like something cold to drink. The barista recommends a caramel frappucino saying that it is one of her favorites. The customer agrees and orders a grande caramel frappucino. So when I got up to order my drink I ordered my usual vanilla bean frappucino and then asked the barista how often does she get asked what to order? She tells me that I would be surprised at the amount of people who have no idea what they want to order.
