During my time at my field site I noticed that I went at a pretty busy time of the day. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was a group of older men staring at me. There were three of them, all dressed in their work clothes almost as if they were welders. Of course I got seated next to them which was almost awkward at first but I made sure that my back was towards them so I did not have to see those three guys stare at me. Even though I couldn't see what they were doing, I could hear every word that they were saying but the only problem that occurred was that the whole time they were their, they were talking in Spanish. I can not understand Spanish so I couldn't get any details on what they were talking about but I did realize that they ordered a lot of food and that the guy with the beard had about 3 plates of food and was able to clean each plate off.
There was a table that was pretty close to the side of me that had five people, three guys and two girls. There was one guy in a purple shirt who sat at the end of the table so it looked like he was 5th wheeling the two other couples. One of the other guys had an NMSU shirt on so I knew that they were students at this school but I have never seen them before. It was actually more obvious that the guy in the purple shirt was 5th wheeling because the other two guys were all over the two girls that were with them, maybe a little too much since my field site was very public. I could tell that other adults around these group of kids were getting annoyed because they didn't want their little kids to see any of it. I'm sure even the welders that were speaking Spanish were talking about the two guys being all over their girlfriends.
I can never decide if I enjoy being near little kids during my time at the field site but sometimes they can be really cute. The table right in front of me had a family of four and their youngest son was probably around 3 years old. I could always see him because he never once sat still. At one point in time he would stand up on the booth and turn around and wave to me. As soon as I waved back at him he would smile and then hide himself so I couldn't see him anymore. Waiting another 5 seconds, and he would pop back up and wave and laugh towards me would keep on continuing the process. Although after he did it a few times, his mom and his dad became a little frustrated that he wouldn't stand still to eat his food. When it was time for me to leave I made sure that I waved goodbye to him and him and his parents all smiled and the kid just waved his little hand back at me. It's the little things that can really get to you.
