Trick or Treat
Its Friday and about one in the afternoon when I walk into Corbett to begin my observation. I decide to sit up against the wall and facing the food court so I can easily look around the whole room with out being too noticeable.
As I began to look around the room I notice that there are some people who have painted their faces to show off their Halloween spirit. One girl had half of her face painted as a skull. As I look around the room more I notice there are also other people who were showing off their Halloween spirit by wearing their costume around campus for the day. There was a girl who was dressed up as a which. I begin observing a girl who is buying a smoothie at the Einstein Bros. After she pays for the smoothie she stands off to the side and starts looking at her phone while she waits for her smoothie to be made. At that time my attention gets drawn away from the girl by a loud yell. When I look over I see that its what appears to be a basketball player yelling at one of the plays from a sports game on the t.v. in the food court. I look back at the girl who was buying the smoothie and see that she is grabbing her smoothie from the counter. As she turns around from grabbing her smoothie there is a guy on his phone who was paying attention and bumped her arm and caused her to drop her smoothie. He was to into his phone to look up and say excuse me which I thought was pretty rude and he was was so fast that he didn't even notice that he had caused her to drop her smoothie and just walked off. The girl got some paper towels and begin to clean the mess and one of the workers gave her a wet towel to help her clean it. After she had gotten the mess cleaned up one of the workers made her another smoothie and gave it to her for no charge because she had seen what had happened and I assume she felt bad for the girl. I thought it was nice of the worker to take the time to make her another smoothie for no charge.
As I sit there for the next twenty minutes, I watch all the people doing homework, eating, and having conversations with friends about what they are going to be for Halloween and which parties they are going to. The room is roaring with sound of all the people talking and it almost makes it hard to think. There is a group of four guys that sit about two tables away from me and start talking about what they are going to be for Halloween. One of the guys says that he is going to be a rapper. He then says "watch me bust a flow," and begins rapping about going out and partying for Halloween. After he finishes each of the guys at the table takes a turn rapping about something. I have to say that they were pretty good and that it was pretty amusing. After this happened I sat and observed for the remainder of the hour in which not very much activity occurred.
