Life in the City
I got the chance to study the world at a new and very interesting field site. I was in a different city on the other side of the country able to see how different the people were and how they acted. I first sat down to try the famous Philly cheese steak and so I would have time to take notes on the people walking by. I first noticed a very old and petite looking Chinese woman walking around in circles around everybody. She was wearing an Asian sun hat with a cigarette in her mouth and rain jackets on even though it was not raining. She was probably 4 foot and 11 inches and looking for someone to make friends with. I never heard her talk cause all she did was walk around in a circle smoking her cigarette. While I was eating my very delicious Philly cheese steak there was a family of three that came to the same place I was eating at and ordered just fries. This family was muslim and the mom just wanted what was best for her two kids. Their was a son and a daughter and the son was very adventurous, all over the place and didn't sit down until his fries came out. The daughter who was probably only 5 or 6 years old just sat in place while she watched her brother run around waiting for his food. Even though these two kids seemed like they were a lot to handle, the mother still looked like she enjoyed there presence and was still appreciating life as it went on. While the little kids were eating their fries some more people came up and commented on how cute they were. It was two guys dressed in a suit probably on their lunch break looking for something good to eat before they had to go back to work. They actually asked me what I had gotten to eat and if I liked it or not. I always love interacting with people just because I enjoy being nice. In a city like that, you don't really meet that many nice people. After they got there food, they sat kind of close to me so I was able to hear what they were talking about but barely. These two guys sounded like they were having a rough day of work and how they just wanted the weekend to be here so they could go out and have a good time. There conversation reminded me of pretty much all the kids in college and how they all wanted the week to be over. There was another guy wearing glasses who was alone and looked like he just wanted to stay alone. He didn't say a single word while he was there except for when he ordered his food. After he got his food he just went and sat down and ate his sandwich in silence. I had to leave this field site after the guy in silence got there but it sure was different seeing all the people that came in.
