More Politics

As I enter the classroom I see that coach has been replaced by an elderly lady: his substitute. At first I am confused, but I remember my brother saying that PARC testing is going on and realize that he's probably out proctoring. I move to my usual seat and observe the classroom, noticing that galaxy shirt is absent today. Almost all the student are talking to each other or are on their phones, but there is not that much drinks today, maybe just two water bottles. Suddenly the sub cries out "what period is this?" "5th" someone replies loudly. The sub then tells that class that the assignment for today is to just finish what they did last class and that the page numbers are 765 and 420, causing a sea of giggling to erupt. The sub then starts roll call, but most of the students are just talking to each other, only stopping to reply "here" when the sub calls out their name. The seats next to me are occupied by green shirt and blonde girl (she was absent the last time I observed the class) and they are talking about track and the current season; it seems like green shirt is in track. I look around and see that pretty girl, fancy hair and lady are all talking to each other while a big group made out of the fukboi group, country girl, headphones, and curly hair are all together. The sub then interrupts the class and says that if anyone is finished with the assignment then they can do whatever, as long as they are quiet.

The next couple of minutes continue on without anything really interesting happing. Some of the students, like curly hair, blonde girl, and lady are doing their work but the majority of the class is just talking. Sweatpants and headphones are on their phones. Most of the recognizable chatter comes from the girl duo next to me. Blonde girl is asking green shirt why runner girl is not running and that she might be kicked out for not going to the track meets. The topic changes to why green shirt herself is not running. Green shirt answers that she has some medical problem; if she runs for a little bit the muscle in her legs starts to knot up, so she has to take a break for at least month. Tooth is on his phone and the usual groups (the trio of lady, pretty girl, and fancy hair and the huge group) are all talking. Curly hair then interrupts the big group by saying that Everest and fancy hair fight like two girls over a guy. Country girl immediately disagrees with this statement, stating that her and all the girls she knows don't fight over guys. Delta nununu then walks into the classroom and sits in front of tooth. Headphones and black shirt are on their phones while everyone else in the class is chatting. No one but blonde girl is doing their assignment, but I'm not sure if it is because they are already done with it or if they just don't want to do it. Delta nununu then pulls back her hair and makes it into a bun before talking to tooth about what the class assignment. The big group then starts to talk about the current bell schedule being messed up due to PARC testing. Green shirt stops her talking to loudly announce "Everest is such a snitch!" and laughs with blonde girl. This doesn't stop the big group's discussion, however. Sophmore is the one in control of the conversation, loudly complaining about the shitty bell schedules (ah I remember those days). While this is going on, Everest turns to sweatpants and asks him to help him on the current quiz. Sweatpants replies "I turned it in. I have no idea where it is now" prompting Everest to make a face and turn away, leaving sweatpants to go back to his phone. The next minutes are nothing new; the groups are either talking to each other or are on their phone, with the exception of curly hair who is working on the assignment, but he soon switches to his phone.

My observation is interrupted by green shirt asking blonde girl a question: "so I heard you're going to prom?" "yeah". The sub then talks about how it seems like that no one is working on the assignment, but this is ignored by green shirt who continues her inquiry about blonde girls prom status. Blonde girl soon gets up and puts away her government book in the front of the class, I assume that she has finished the assignment. Soon after Everest stands up from his seat and starts to talk to the big group, moving his hands around to emphasize his point. Country girl notices this and starts to mimic him. After a minute of this Everest sits back down in his seat. Next to the big group fancy hair is wrapping up a story he is telling to pretty girl and lady "that's scary though, do you not think that's scary?" pretty girl says something to him before getting up and throwing away a piece of paper. The sub asks "who's talking?" Everest quickly replies with a bullshit explanation that everyone is just discussing civil liberties and civil rights since the class is more about discussion than work. The sub seems satisfied with this answer and returns to her work with an "I can see that". As she turns away, someone in the class says "good one Everest".

Everest soon gets up and starts to talk to fancy hair, before sitting down across from him. I turn my attention to blonde girl and green shirt who's new topic seem to be about some drama going on in their current friend group. My attention is snagged away as I notice Everest get up from his current seat and move to the next row, closer to sophomore and the heart of the big group, before sitting down. Pretty girl gets up again and moves to the trashcan, this time throwing away her sonic lunch bag and talks to fancy hair when her trip is over. Curly hair is working on his quiz and country girl peeks at his paper a couple of times to see what he is writing. Country girl then starts to make a fuss about her allergies, which steals curly hairs attention away from his paper and to her, leading to a talk about how much allergies suck. I look around the classroom once again; headphones and sweatpants are on their phones while everyone else (except lady who is doing the quiz) is talking. Sophmore then starts to make cheap jokes about this blind girl he sees on campus. "like how does she pass her classes? she cant take notes from lecture slides". This continues on as Sophmore is left stupefied about how people with disabilities can get accommodated. The topic changes when Sophmore says to the group "so how do you guys feel about the first communist state in America?" "colorado?" "yeah they told everyone who to vote for" this then leads to a lengthy discussion in the big group, but I am soon interested by the girls next to me.

Green shirt and blonde girl are smack talking and gossiping about a girl called lexicon. Blonde girl says that lexicon has hurt her emotionally and proceeds to cry, showing green shirt some texts on her phone. I am bit uncomfortable writing about a girl crying and I feel for her. The big group on the other side of the room has since moved on from communist colorado onto Trump and Bernie Sanders, with most of the ones doing the talking being black shirt and Everest. Sophmore remarks that Trump will be split since he doesn't have enough delegates to win the nomination. I notice fancy hair looking at me when he thinks I'm not looking at his direction and looks away when I glance over to him. He nods to pretty girl who glances towards me for a second. In front of me delta nununu starts talking to tooth for a bit. Meanwhile, blonde girl elaborates how lexicon hurt her, stating that she had invited her to an event which lexicon promised to go but never did, which fucked up blonde girl pretty bad. Pretty girl and fancy hair are talking but fancy hair soon starts talking to Sophmore about the military after he makes a remark how the military is being downsized to pre-WWII times. Sophmore argues how this is bad for the country and someone else remarks that free healthcare is not possible. Sweatpants then looks around the room and stretches for a bit before going back to his phone. Curly hair and headphones are also on their phones and fancy hair and pretty girl are talking to each other. Sweatpants then sneezes, prompting tooth to say "bless you". At the same time delta nununu glances to the big group. Lady has stopped her work and is listening in on to pretty girl and fancy hair's conversation. Green shirt to the right of me is comforting blonde girl, saying that lexicon uses people- shes rude when she doesn't need you but nice when she wants something out of you. Everest on the other side of the room gets up for a second and jokes before sitting down to explain how the republican party got its name. Next to them lady moves to pretty girl and fixes her bra strap for her while pretty girl is explaining to fancy hair the status of women in America and how they feel in society. Delta nununu glances from her work to look at the big group and observes them for a bit before going back to her work. The sub looks up from her desk and gives a dirty look to the big group and the trio but says nothing.

Headphones goes off his phone for a bit to chat with black shirt but my interest shifts to country girl as she says "lincoln is on a $5 bill, Washington is $1". This catches headphones interest and he starts to talk about lincoln on the five dollar bill. During this time Everest stands up and moves back to his original seat. The trio are listening to pretty girl tell a story, curly hair is working on the quiz, sweatpants is on his phone, and green shirt and blonde girl are talking about the prom drama. Everest moves closer to curly hair and talks to him, getting out a nickel and ask if the man on it is FDR "idk" curly hair replies before going to his phone for a moment, and says "its Franklin D Roosevelt". Everest leaves curly hair alone and starts to talk to the trio. Headphones and curly hair are on their phone while Sophmore shows black shirt something on his phone. Delta nununu once again glances over the big group. Everyone in the class is chatting to each other and nothing of interest happens for a while until the subs says that the noise level has gone way up. Everest says "sorry ma'm" and the class does quite down. Green shirt is still trying to cheer up blonde girl, but her efforts are working and blonde girl is smiling a  lot more than before.

Delta nununu asks tooth a question and he responds by pointing to the board and explains part of the assignment to her before both resume their previous positions. The big group is now discussing how bad sophomore is at driving. Apparently he crosses over the lines too much and swerves too fast. Next to them fancy hair takes out his iPod and puts in one bud in his ear and the other bud in Everest's ear. They then start listening to fancy hair's music and talk a bit while fancy hair shows Everest the album information. Pretty girl takes an interest and starts to listen to fancy hair's music too. Nothing interesting happens for a bit, sweatpants stretches and observes the room. Fancy hair then puts away his headphones and gets ups to talk to the sub about his mom calling him. "my mom is calling, let me out" "no I can't" "it's just my mom, i'll be out there" this continues for a couple of seconds before the sub gives in and lets fancy hair leave the classroom. The big group is now talking about a post Everest made on facebook about Bernie Sanders and how it started big drama on their feed. Fancy hair comes back into the classroom and dives into the Everest facebook drama, which has exploded in volume. Tooth looks at the group and I notice that delta nununu is getting ready to leave as she is packing her stuff. Soon after the bell rings and I leave.
