The Annoying Phone Call

As I look around,  there are many people who have their computers out. I wonder how many of them are actually doing homework and how many are just surfing the web or on some sort of social media such as Facebook. A girl sitting to the right of me has her computer out as well as her phone which she constantly checks. There are two friends who are sitting across from me, both males, who are also on their phones. However, they aren't ignoring each other. They are preoccupied with their phones but they are still conversing with each other which seems unusual since so many people will be out with friends or family but are too busy on their phones that they don't even talk to each other. They are talking to each other about the things that they see on their phones.
A man who is sitting diagonally from me is eating his lunch, has his computer out and is on the phone. Usually I don't get bothered by people who are talking on the phone but this man is talking with the speaker on. He seems to be talking to some sort of customer service representative because he seems to be asking for steps to take and then performs them on his computer.
As I look around, I see almost every person with some sort of electronic device (cellphone, laptop, or tablet). There's not a whole lot going on so I turn my attention back to the guy talking on the phone. Somehow the conversation turned to football. The man states that he likes the Denver Broncos because he is a fan of Peyton Manning. While listening to the conversation, trying to not make it obvious that I'm listening, I look around and see that there is a group of three meeting in one of the study rooms all with their books out as well as something to eat. In the background I notice that classical piano music is playing. I hear two friends behind me talking at a decent volume level but I still can't quite make out what they're saying. While looking around I wonder how much work people are actually getting done with all the distractions there are such as friends or their electronic devices. Back to the annoying phone call. I notice that the man has to spell out a password for the lady on the phone. I assume that it's a password because he is trying to spell it out in a whisper. The lady can't quire hear him so he has to say it out a little louder. After he spells it out he mentions that the word is related to Star Trek. When he was trying to spell out the password in a whisper but then had to repeat it louder, I kind of laughed to myself because he probably thought to himself that it should be fine to say it louder because people were minding their own business and not paying attention but here I am listening, intentionally, and wringing it all down. Another thing that the man is doing that bothers me is that while he is on the phone he is eating his lunch and isn't even trying to be quiet about it. I can't help but to think how rude the man is being.
Watching people at a place on campus makes me wonder how much time people spend getting stuff done between classes and much time is spent doing just whatever to pass the time. As I'm getting ready to leave and go to class I notice that the two friends that were sitting across from me are coming back. They returned about twenty minutes after leaving. Maybe they went to go eat a quick lunch. I wonder if this is a regular spot for them.
