Today was relatively uneventful, as I was sitting down I noticed a pair of girls sitting near me, from both their expressions and body language they looked exhausted. I expect because classes are starting to get down to crunch time and Thursdays are towards the end of the week. They were not eating much of their food, mostly staring at their phones with very vacant expressions. There conversation was even less lively with the occasional outburst of laughter. The table on the other side of me was different, they were much louder and were all guys. They were wearing matching shirts and shorts, this told me that they were a sports team. There attitude was the opposite of the girls, loud, energetic and full of conversation. One of the guys was clearly the leader of the group, everyone listened to him as he talked, even stopping their own conversations to listen. I'm going to call him alpha, now alpha was very cocky in the way he talked. Now the majority of their topics of conversation was about girls, and about their various success story's. Alpha would listen to the other guys tell their story and then would one -up them every time.
Then a family walked over and took the table directly to the front of mine. It was a father, a mother and two young kids, these kids were probably around 8 to 11 years old. What looked liked the older child was very shy and constantly looked like he was trying to blend in the background. His little sibling was the opposite, very outgoing and always smiling. The parents looked like they had a long day, both acted very tired, but were playful with their kids. The mother looked like she was playing a type of game with the oldest child involving cards(which I did not get a look at). The father was bouncing the younger child on his knee. Interestingly alphas table quieted down when the family sat down, swearing less and changing their topics of conversation to more family friendly topics. I think this shows that all of the guys have family's and are used to being around younger children, used to being the role model. Alpha looks over every once in a while to look at the kids, and smiles slightly, not in a creepy way but in a big brother kind of way. And if any strangers walk by the kids he tenses, almost to little to notice if your not paying attention, he stops talking and focuses on the stranger.
For the most part the quiet trend is constant around the diner today, everybody needs more sleep and look like their ready for the last day of classes this week to end.
