Ready For the Weekend

It's a late afternoon on a Friday when I arrive to my field site. As I began my observations I realize that there seems to be a certain excitement in the air that usually is not there. Everyone that walks by seems to have an enthusiastic, upbeat attitude. I assume this is because another Friday is coming to an end and the weekend is about to begin.

After about thirty minutes of being at my field site, there were a group of three girls that came and sat near me. As the three girls began to converse, I overhear them talking about what each others plans are for Halloween and what each of them is going to be. After this they began to stare at their phones in silence, not looking up as if they don't know what else to talk about and don't want the situation to be awkward. After about ten minutes of this they decide to leave.

The most exciting event of my observations happened as I was leaving my field site. As I began to get up from my seat and walk away I notice there was a guy going very fast on his long board into a very large swarm of people. In an attempt to avoid a collision with anyone, the guy aims his board towards the grass and jumps off of it and does a couple of barrel rolls on the cement while trying to catch his footing. After this there are many people who stop and stare, but there was only one person who went to see if he was alright. As he gets up you can see the embarrassment in his face. He brushes himself off then continues on his way.
