"There was an explosion"

I walk into the auditorium at 7:24.   There are fliers on a table with information about the event. On the back is a bio about the speaker of the evening. A woman is stranding by the table, greeting everyone with s smile. There are about 35 students waiting for everything to start and more are shuffling in. As people find their seats they are chatting about their week, the speaker of the night and plans for the weekend. The woman who was greeting everyone closes the auditorium door and heads to the front. She begins to introduce herself and everyone quiets down. She thanks everyone for attending and describes the speaker, the guest for next week and invites the auditorium for an after party at her house. She tells everyone her address and asks that whoever attends to bring their own booze.
When she finishes with the invitation, she introduces a student to talk about the speaker. The student reads a bio about the speaker, describes some if the work he's done and then introduces the speaker. The room applauds as a man in his mid 40's heads to the front of the room. He introduces himself and prepares everyone for his reading. He asks if his microphone is working because he can't hear himself. A few of us confirm
Begins with story about an explosion in Springfield, by a daycare center.
Most of the room is attentive and laughing at humorous points of the story. Some look bored. One guy is slouching and looking at his phone. I begin to pay more attention. I've been on my phone writing this. I don't want to come across rude so I pay attention. I'll be back.
7:46
Most of the room is still entertained by story but there are a few drifting in and out.
The speaker is speaking in animated fashion with a lot of hand use and rythmic cadence in his speaking. "An explosion in Springfield, by a day care center", has been repeated over 20 times, each one stranger than the last.
Another student  in front of me is texting. Maybe he's doing field work. Nevermind, it's Facebook. For shame. He's wearing an Army hat and a dirty white t-shirt.
A student sitting sitting directly in front of the speaker pops his knuckles. The speaker flubs for a moment, looks at the knuckle cracker and carries on with the story. Again, "An explosion in Springfield, by a day care center". A couple walks in late sit in the back row.
Army guy notices, stares for a moment then gets back to his phone.
Two student play with their  beards as they listen. One of them is the kid that gave the intro.
The spearker begins to run circles in his strory and repeats himself a few times. An older gentleman in the back of the room begins to cough then leaves the room.
Army boy follows cue and leaves
I can hear someone sitting behind me playing with ther keys.
7:59
The older gentleman returns and makes his way back to his seat.
No sign of army boy.
8:10 Beard players buddy in a black t shirt lays head baxk in bordom. Looks like could fall asleep.Girl with blue hair and nmsu hoodie is texting
Speaker  begins to switch to perfect spanish. Gets everyones attention. They laugh at a joke.
Sleepy guy sits up and says something to his friend. They both laugh. They continue to whisper.
It looks like they're considering leaving.
A girl on the left side plays with hair in boredom. The guy that came in late steps out. The room laughs and he ends his story.
Intro lady asks questions.
One girl asks questions about rehearsal of the story.
Speaker laughs at her question.
He begins a story about philosophy and gets lost. He eventually answers her question
Speaker closes with a joke.
8:22
A female leaves.
Sleepy guy plays and sniffs bag of ground coffee he has brought with him for some reason.
8:24
Older female returns to her seat. She adjusts her skirt as she sits down. Intro kid asks a question  about beatboxing.
Speaker talks about relation between beatbox and poetry
8:27
"Anymore questions?"
No one responds. The speaker thanks everyone.
Everone gets out of their seat and begins to leave. A few groups gather and begin to chat about the afterparty. A few students remain in their seats .The speaker is talking with a few guests at the front of the room. His Microphone is still on and everyone can hear his conversation. A girl in the back of the room sees a guy she knows. She introduces him to who I assume  is her boyfriend, based on their body language. An older woman sitting at a back table jingles her keys in her hands, grabs her bag and heads out.
People gather by the door and continue to talk about their plans for the night. The majority of the remaining parties begin to leave. I decide to do the same.
