Late Nights

As I began my hour of observation, I took my seat in a local restaurant and instantly spotted the two people I was going to be observing. The time is two thirty in the morning and the restaurant is deprived of customers with the exception of me and just a handful of others. I am greeted with a warming smile from the waitress as she takes my drink order. I receive my cup of coffee and open up my computer to begin my field notes.
I am observing two males around the age of twenty and from first glance they appear to be charismatic and joyful but their eyes displayed exhaustion. They were both wearing jeans, t-shirts, and cowboy boots. They both had dark brown hair and black x's marked on their hands. The two were silent for a while and then began talking about the dance they had just came from. The two had many yawns at various points in the conversation. Ralph, the boy wearing a white shirt said to Cole, the boy in the red shirt, "I had fun for my first time going to little bit." When he said this I realized that they had spent the night dancing at Little Bit of Texas, a popular bar in El Paso where a lot of people go to dance. The two exchanged stories of the night and shared laughs. Suddenly, the two ran into a friend of there's. A short blonde girl that appeared to come from the same place as Ralph and Cole. She was accompanied by a man around the same age as Ralph and Cole, who I quickly hypothesized as the girls boyfriend. They asked how they were and made small talk until the girl with her boyfriend said their goodbyes to flea to their seats. Shortly after, the waitress brought their food out to them. When the two boys saw their food being placed on the table their faces lit up with excitement and didn't seem tired anymore being that they caught their second wind. The two were quite as they devoured their food. As the two wrapped up their meals, they quickly fell back into the strong grip of sleep and became extremely drowsy. During the period when they were awaiting their checks, Cole laid his head on the table displaying how drained he was. The waitress brought their checks in which they paid and collected their things to leave. It was around three fifteen at this time and the streets were dead. Cole and Ralph stood up, stretched, attempted to rub the sleep out of their eyes, and departed from the restaurant.
It was also time for me to head home as well, being that I was equally as tired as Cole and Ralph. I paid for my drink, said my goodbyes to the restaurant staff and concluded my field note study.
