Fast Times

This week in the fields of New Mexico the Historic Society met and I had the opportunity to observe the goings on of a group of people attempting to fit into an era not their own. Tents made from eras gone by were assembled by large groups of people. Individuals willingly put aside setting up their own tents to set up individuals that had time period tents. Some walked around with fruit and drinks to make sure that everyone had a full stomach. The older individuals sat and directed the younger. The age hierarchy was clearly displayed.

As the event began, people who had earned their perceived titles were addressed as lord or lady. They were bowed or curtsied to by everyone. Speech took on different toned depending on persona location and backstory. it was fascinating to watch as an outsider instead of one of the group. Individuals, who are on equal footing in the mundane world, willingly placed individuals into positions higher than them. One of the "royal family" was there. We will call him the King. No one approached him unless asked to and even passing in front of the encampment warranted a deep bow. Even he took on an air of superiority to those "below" him.

The fighters took the field at his command. Friends in their daily life became enemies for the moment. They beat each others with their weapons and enjoy every minute of it. Not one holds back their full strength. It is a good thing that they are wearing heavy duty protection. After the fight they laugh and joke while drinking water.

Well my time is up. I hear the King calling for aid and I must offer His Majesty my assistance. Perchance the court will look favorably upon me!
