I depart towards the spaceport in TorC, which will be the filming location for the day. My call time is 9:30am. I leave my place 3 hours early, just in case. Once I head North on I-25 the next exit is a dirt road which according to GPS, lasts an hour and a half. I'm dreading the last leg of the drive, considering I just got my car out of the shop. When I hit the road there is only one car in front of me and it is traveling at such a high rate of speed, I can't see between my vehicle and theirs. The dust begins to settle and all of a sudden the leading car stops. I hit my brakes stops just in time. The car in front of me gets stuck in a sandpit and cars begin to line up behind me. The driver of the stuck car is a young female. She says her name is Alisha. A large truck passes me on the left and parks in front of Alisha. The driver is a young male. He doesn't mention his name but says he has straps and shovels to get Alisha's car out of the dirt. A second male male approaches the scene. He's in his 20's, has tattooed sleeves and says his name is Gerry. Gerry and I each grab a shovel and start digging under Alisha's car. Once Alisha's car is free, everyone jumps back in their vehicle and we continue. By this point everyone thought they'd be late so we sped through the desert to save time and avoid someone getting stuck again.
I arrive to the shooting location and there are several security guards at the front gate. The lane I was entering was being tended by a female in her mid 50's, two males about the same age and another male in his 20's. I park my vehicle next to a silver honda civic, covered in dust. I guess they came the same route I did. As I get out I hear a girl crying and yelling at the male that was with her. They're both in their early 20's. He's peppered with acne, tall and looks very annoyed and confused. Shes tall, yelling and her makeup is intact. She's making crying sounds but doesn't have tears. She yells something about her car being damaged and hee parents are going to kill her because they just bought that car. She says something about just wanting to go home. I grab my wardrobe from my car and walk away.A bus arrives and picks everyone up and takes them to set. The bus driver is an older gentleman with grey hair. He has. a look of determination on his face and doesn't talk much. On the bus are over 40 people, dressed nice as if going to a dinner party. They all vary from different ages and races. The youngest person on board looks like their in high school. The oldest gentleman on set looked to be in his late 70's. After we arrived to set, we are fed breakfast, assigned costumes and then went to set.
The set had over 200 people working that day and was even more diverse than the group on the bus. Everyone was assigned to a different table in a scene where a gala/fundraiser/ focus group was to be taking place. At my table were 3 other males around my age, 1 female in her 50's and 2 females in their 20's. I spent about 15 hours on set and met a lot of interesting people. I hope to do it again soon.
