Warm Afternoons; Cool Bokhandles
It's my third day here at Alderman and I've noticed, that every day I come here, I see more and more people, of all ages no less. When I first arrived in my section, I saw an elderly woman, Telissa, sitting quietly reading, and to college age students, Tio and Allegra, who proceeded to socialize and study. I also saw a little boy, Mason, go running bye, and I later saw (for the first time since I started going to Alderman) an employee behind the Customer Service counter, without a customer dictating their presence there. I also noticed that, for the first time since I started going there, the shades were drawn. I didn't read too much into it though; I just thought it was interesting and thus worth noting. I also for the first time so three teenage girls, Marra, Tarria, and Desemé, doing what sounded like high school chemistry homework. Surprisingly, I don't see very many high school aged teenagers at Alderman, despite the fact that there is a high school not too far down the road. I sometimes wonder why more high school students don't come to Alderman; it's a very inviting, comfortable, and relaxing atmosphere to do schoolwork in. Plus, most of the time, it's not too loud, so it's like a library, but slightly more trendy because of Bean & Brew's presence right downstairs. Today however, I did see in another section, a large group of college-aged students, apparently studying. I believe this is the largest group of teenagers I've ever seen in any of the den areas of the store. One last little tidbit that I found slightly amusing and worth noting was the fact that for the first time since I've then coming to Alderman, i've heard a song that I actually own playing on the radio. First and foremost, I'd like to point out that I only ever listen to the radio whenever out in public, usually because it plays music that I am not familiar with and don't particularly enjoy. However a song that I really love, I Don't Care Anymore, by Phil Collins, was on the radio, and I thought it was absolutely hilarious! One complaint that I would like to bring up is that more and more I find that I hear dub-step and dub step-esq sounding music on the radio, and less of what I would deem quality music on the radio. It seems to me that music is becoming less and less about actual talent and more more about creating a song that will fill up a club and/or generate a wild, party atmosphere. And so, as music involves, I find my taste going in the opposite direction.
