Social Gatherings All Around

As I walked into the room to find a table, I notice many groups around me from the popular group to the quiet ones trying to complete their own homework or mind their own business.

My fascination arose when I saw an old couple, Mr. and Mrs. Doe, sitting in front of me. When I first went to find a table the old man smiled at me, which made me happy. The couple were having a lovely lunch with silence as they enjoyed each other’s company but Mr. Doe was getting bored as he started to tap his Coca- Cola Zero on the table. Mrs. Doe was eating her bagel, getting cream cheese all over her fingertips, not really paying attention to him. After the tapping went on for a while, Mrs. Doe reaches over to stop Mr. Doe from tapping his bottle and the silence continued. Mr. Doe’s body language changed. He crossing his arms and just stared at the other table around him. Soon, Mr. and Mrs. Doe ended up having a small conversation. That's when Mrs. Doe finished her food and said something to make him laugh. She picked up her purse and put it on the table, dusted the crumbs off her clothes, and then left to throw out her trash. Mr. Doe waited patiently for her to come back, checking his watch after a few minutes passed and once Mrs. Doe came back they were ready to leave. Mrs. Doe put on her glasses and grabbed her purse and as they were walking out, they grabbed each other’s hands, causing me to smile because old couples are just the cutest.

There was then this group of 14 people. I watched as each one was conversing with one another, but with a group that large you can’t expect them to only have one conversation. There was a main talker in each conversation; a guy with a man bun, a blonde girl with glasses, and a guy with a blue tank top on. As each of them had different conversations going on, three more people joined their conversation and some left to go get their lunch. At this point half of them were eating lunch and half of them were conversing and then another person joins their group, making it 17 people in total with three tables put together. A few of them looked up when it came to construction work happening above them. Once some of them finished eating, they offered their left over food to other people on the table, it seemed as though they were all part of one organization.

Finally, we have one couple that I found very interesting. The guy had a beard and was wearing blue basketball shorts and a white t-shirt and the girl was wearing a green jersey style t-shirt with jeans and she had blonde hair. They stood by a table at first and kissed each other but after that kiss they departed ways; one of them at one table near the table and the other one at the table they stood at when they walked in. They probably had a lot of homework to do and didn’t want to distract each other as I saw blue shorts opening his computer to type away. Blondie ended up seeing a friend of hers in a plaid shirt, who was doing homework and walked over there. They were talking and plaid just stopped doing her homework to talk to blondie. I look back over at blue shorts to see him scratching his beard while doing his homework, as if it’s a habit that has developed. Blondie then switched seats to be closer to plaid, probably gossiping, but that’s when I noticed a guy walking over to man buns shaking hands. They stand there for a while, his friend has his backpack on  and food in his hands. They were probably conversing over the assignment blue shorts was trying to do, but then I realize the stance his friend was in. He had his legs apart and starts swaying a bit. His friend doesn’t sit right away as he stood for a good five minutes before he sits to eat his meal. I look back over at blondie and she was still talking to plaid and she was tapping her foot in the air, which I believe you do out of habit. This couple seemed to be an interesting pair as they showed interest in one another and just walked away as if they didn’t know each other.
