New Day, New Faces

Same location, different day, and a lot of new faces around the area. I sit in the same spot as I did before and realize that there are no groups larger than five. The location wasn't as crowded as it is on a Friday during lunch time.

There was a pair right in front of me who seemed to be having an interesting conversation as they were using a lot of hand gestures to talk. The girl, Pink, waved her hands to explain a size of something and the guy, Blue, would use his hands when he disagreed or to intensify his story. Throughout the story Pink would play with her hair, as she runs her fingers she would laugh when Blue said something funny. Also when Blue was talking to Pink, Pink would play with her straw on her drink, twirling it around in circles. As the conversation progressed, I noticed that both Blue and Pink would cover their mouths with their hands when the other one was talking. Then suddenly the atmosphere seemed to change between them as there was less laughter and repetition of sentences. Blue’s body posture also changed; he sat there with his arms crossed and started to click his pen against his arm. But towards the end of the conversation it became relaxed again, and more laughter arose.

To my left, there were three girls sitting today, all with their laptops and phones out. Other people probably expected them to be doing homework but as I observed them, they were mostly gossiping and only looking down at the electronics occasionally which is what typically happens when you try to study with your friends as I do the same in that scenario.

Observing the atmosphere that day had a different aspect at the location and different groups of people, which to me wasn’t as exciting as before.
