My observation of grouped-up or paired-up teens continues as I spend my second day at Alderman Avenue Bokahndle. Surprisingly though, I saw only slightly more people today than I did my first day, despite the fact that today was a school day, and my first day was a holiday. In truth, however, I've only ever really gone to Alderman twice and it could be considered truly crowded, which is particularly interesting since the parking lot is virtually always crowded, and a good parking space is hard to find, unless you get there early in the morning. Also interestingly, despite the fact that this is a bookstore, I rarely ever see adults in here. For the most part, I only ever see people my age and slightly older. I guess given the location the younger clientele would make sense, though. But still, I've come to associate the act of actually going to a bookstore with older people (by older of course, I mean people starting from about the mid 30s and up). In most other bookstores in the other places that have lived, the clients of been predominately adults, which is kind of interesting to me, considering the fact that students my age can perhaps make the best use of a bookstores resources.
Another tidbit that I found to be worth noting was that for the entire while that I was there, there wasn't anyone at the Customer Service counter. And I also saw several people, ranging from all ages, wondering seemingly aimlessly around the store looking for service, only to never find it. Every now and again I saw customers with employees actually helping them, but for the most part, if you wanted service, you were kind of out of luck, or you had to hunt down in employee, which a lot of the time you never found, thus rendering you, once more, out of luck. I've noticed this in most venues throughout my life though, so I suppose it isn't too out of place or uncommon, but no matter where it is seen, it's just as unpleasant. I've always pondered this question when I see employees practically avoiding customers: if you don't like dealing with people, why did you go into the customer service industry? And most people have become so accustomed to this, that they don't usually complain; but compliance with and toleration of this behavior does not equal satisfaction with it.
