Burritos

It is a chilly Monday morning, I sit at my desk quietly, it is 8:15 AM. I look around the room and see Dwight diligently working on his laptop as usual. Chuck and Blaire quietly walk in, Blaire has a cup of Starbucks coffee in her hand, she looks tired. They sit down and I try to non-creepily observe them. Chuck sets his things down and walks over to Blaire’s desk and quietly asks if she needs anything, I’m going to assume Blaire had a long night and Chuck is trying to help her out.

It’s 8:20 AM, and Burrito Lady has walked in with an assistant to help carry everything. They slowly walk to the table and Burrito Lady starts unloading the burritos into the slow cooker while her assistant opens the container of pastries. Dwight got up to get some orange juice and Burrito Lady asks if he would like a burrito, he nervously said no thank you and sat back down.

Ponytail guy has arrived! He loudly shouts “Good morning!” to Burrito Lady and her assistant, and they both respond good morning back. Ponytail Guy walked over to Dwight and said hello and started talking to Dwight about something that I can’t make out. It’s 8:25 AM and some people have begin to filter in. Baldey and Johnny walk in together talking about a fellow coworker, Johnny walks over to Blaire and Chuck and asks them about their weekend. Baldey walks over to Ponytalk Guy and Dwight and joins in their conversation. Dwight looks uncomfortable and merely listens as Baldey and Ponytail Guy begin talking to each other about a game this weekend, from what I can hear. Clearly not Dwight’s area of expertise.

It’s 8:34 AM and Burrito Lady and her assistant have finished organizing everything. Burrito Lady says “Well go at it!” to Ponytail Guy as she walks out. Him and Baldey continue their conversation as they grab food. Dwight swivels his chair around back to his laptop and continues working. Johnny is still talking to Chuck and Blaire when Baldey and Ponytalk Guy walk over and tell Johnny they are leaving to the field soon, Johnny says goodbye to Chuck and Blaire, grabs a burrito and walks out with Ponytalk Guy and Baldey.

It’s 8:45 AM and the lab is quiet again. Chuck gets up and grabs a burrito for Blaire and himself and brings her some juice as well. I don’t know what’s wrong with her but she looks exhausted. Three of the janitors walk in together chatting in spanish to each other, and as usual they grab plates of food and sit in the conference room. I decide to investigate, because I can’t see them anymore, and I go get juice. As I walk by I see one of them sitting on the floor eating a pastry, and the other two women on the couch laughing all together. They laughed a bit loud because Dwight looked over at the room they were sitting at, then looked back at his laptop.

That seems to be the most interesting thing thus far on Burrito Day. The janitors laughing together and enjoying food while I sit and write everything I see going on.

People filter in an out for the rest of the morning, and as the burritos begin to run out the lab gets quieter and quieter. Perhaps next week will be a more interesting Burrito Day.
