After some extensive time spent in the presence of my fellow
man whilst lifting heavy lead, rubber lined weights in an attempt to build a
physique that would finally fulfill my desire to look as good as I feel I do it
comes as no surprise that in order to obtain a disciplined look one must
abandon the culture that held one back from obtaining ones goals. Gone are our
days of laziness and sloth like behavior, now are our days of hard work and
daily grind. Once what had discouraged me and many of my peers now entices us.
As I take mental notes (last time I tried bringing a note pad I kept losing
track of it) I wonder what will our next goal be as part of the weight
training/ bodybuilding culture. When we separate the culture we get old school
type training where the grind is the discipline, rarely venturing into pharmaceuticals
to supplement our lack of a nutrient in our diets. The “New School” is a bit different falling
for ‘fad’ marketing schemes and short cuts, once they find their groove and
become immune to the false promises of the corporate giants they tend to show interest
in new products but with knowledge through trial and error. Mr.O and I fall
into the new category but as of recent we’ve noticed more progress from the Old
School way of training.
Something
that never ceases to surprise me is the lack of knowledge people come into the
gym with, so often it is seen that these beginners try out new devices not
fully knowing the actual purpose of the objects. When results aren’t seen in a
short period of time they abandon it (such is the way of the American populous). It seems Mrs. L has fallen victim to the
corporate giant as I see her supplements when she visits her gym bag only to realize
she has chosen what seems to be off of what product is most talked about. Due
to research into this topic of supplements done by myself I’ve comprised a list
of supplements that have ingredients that I find most effective in myself. I
won’t promote this list as it fits my personal requirements. The next thing I notice is that Mrs. L tends
to refer her friends to the same product she uses which is essentially just
sweet powder with little to no nutritional value. The corporations best bet is to
mass market to the new comers in fitness as this gives a point of origin for
the new comers to relate back to and cause a sense of ‘nostalgia’ to reference
back to. However if I had continued my supplement regiment I would be accused
of taking amphetamines as the ingredient in my pre-work out is N,alpha-di-ethylphenylethylamine
which is close in chemical make up as Methamphetamine. New comers beware of what is in your
supplements. The best starts I’ve seen
from beginners are when they pick a protein powder based on their needs
(optimum nutrition isn’t the best choice here but it’s not the worst) and have
a cup of coffee beforehand. Then they find a basic program and stick to it for
over six months. Due to American culture being the way it is this may seem like
a rather long time to progress but due to the nature of the human body this is
when you see progress take hold, not to mention you need to always challenge
yourself to see progress, which, is how you actually progress in life.
