Full House

I walk into my field site and see two guys Jim and Joe in blue long sleeve shirts and black long pants. Jim is African American and Joe is of Hispanic descent. They seem to work for the same company. I tried to read the company name on their shirts but my 2020 vision was not up to par. Both of the men seem jovial and could be seen joking with each other while they weren’t busy texting on their phones. They seemed to be best of friends and were probably just stopping by after work to grab something to eat.

On the center table I observed a family of four, there’s mom, dad a four year old son and baby sister. The three eldest members of the family sat and ate while the two year old who seemed full of energy keeps pushing around the baby’s chair provided by the restaurant.

I sat at the table opposite the family of four watching a baseball game and waiting for my order.

While I was walking to the counter to pick up my order Jim and Joe ordered two to go plates before leaving. They stood at the counter waiting for their food and conversing with Wayne the waiter.

Young guy and his girlfriend walk in and order. Both sit and talk while waiting for their food. We’ll call this couple Brad and Lisa. Brad is Hispanic and his girlfriend Lisa is Caucasian. She sat down and folded both feet as if in a meditating position which quite awkward for a restaurant setting. They sat across from each other but leaned forward over the table to speak.

On the table opposite Brad and Lisa was an older couple in their thirty’s both of Hispanic descent. They didn’t speak much but were busy eating. I could not identify their drinks because it was in a Styrofoam cup.

A car comes up to the parking lot and a Caucasian couple in their forties walk in and order six plates of food. We’ll call this couple Rita and Steve. They sat down at the table directly in front of the counter and ordered soda while they waited. Wayne the waiter brought out the six plates and Steve and Rita said good night and left.  What was strange was that they didn’t use the drive thru.

About five minutes went by and a guy walks in and sits at the table next to me. Lets’ call him Carlos. He ordered a burrito and horchata. Carlos sat on the table right next to me and was listening to music on his iPod. He saw me glancing at the TV screen occasionally and asked if I was a baseball fan. He seems to be a fan of the sport. Told him I understood the sport but I don’t watch it as often.

Lisa and Brad, the young couple got up and emptied their treys. Wayne the waiter thanks them for coming and has a short conversation with Brad in Spanish before the couple left.

About ten minutes went by and I felt the ‘itis’ coming on so I also got up and left.
