What the storm brings

It is 7:15 p.m., Sunday night, and the stars are blocked by dark storm clouds. The sound of thunder rings in the distance and brief flashes of light occur far in the distance by the mountains. No rain has hit the dormitory grounds or the open-roof patio. Residents are talking excitedly in the lobby and outside the front and back.
One resident, Mr. Curious, takes out his iphone and looks up the weather report. He excitedly tell his numerous friends that they will be experiencing stormy weather till this thursday. Curious' statement is rewarded with many "Yes!" and "Awesome!" resonses. Curious looks up at the night sky and a happy smile appears on his face, lighted by the streetlight in front of the dorm.
8:00 p.m., rain finally starts to come down. The droplets sting as they collide with the people standing unprotected from them. Residents scurry to find shelter from the watery barrage. Out in the back, behind the dormitory in the parking lot, the residents who usually smoke and socialize run back to the dorm entrance, laughing and playfully shrieking as they come inside. Mr. Happy, laughs and playfully kicks a puddle of water towards Ms. Shriek. Shriek of course is caught unawares and shrieks in surprize. She turns around and playfully extracted her vengeance on Happy by slapping his broad chest. Happy whines in mock pain but still smiles at her. They join the rest of their friends inside the dorm and make their way up the stairs. The group, including Happy and Shriek walk into the next patio over.
9:04 p.m., residents lose the initial enchantment of the rain and now remain indoors, avoiding the wet and cold. Many have their windows open and the ones who do seem to usually have company. In one room, a passing-by glance would reveal two young men, Mr. Pro and Mr. Gamer, sitting in their swivel chairs and leaning forward towards a tv while they play some sort of FPS game on the Playstation IV. Another window reveals three girls sitting on the two beds and talking; clearly enjoying one anothers company.
Suddenly, a bright flash of light fills up the night sky and the dorm is flooded with white light. About one second later, every rooms shudders as the a loud clap of thunder sounds from above. In about five to seven seconds after the sound dies down, multiple residents open their doors and look around to see if they could catch a glimpse of more lightning. There are many whoops and "Alright!" shouts from them. One resident, Mr. Clueless looks around from the second floor balcony and loudly says "what the F*** happened?!" to no one in particular. After looking around some more, Clueless retreats back into his dorm room. Now that the residents have been startled from their rooms, many decide to walk around the balcony on the second floor, and under the balcony on the first floor with their friends and talk and laugh together.
