I am eager for tonights fieldwork as I have seen it be very highly anticipated. As far as I know, many platforms of social media have been promoting tonights show. I arrive around 9:08.
To my surprise but also slightly expected, the parking lot is flooded with show goers. I also spot some new faces. I'm approaching the entrance and see an unfamiliar person. I discover it's a promoter but he is from El Paso. He must have brought the event here tonight. I look around and see our towns promoters are here as well. They are conversing with the groups around them and perhaps making new friends. As I'm still standing outside I notice a division in the groups. With this being a larger show, I guess this is expected to happen. It is interesting how different people can be even if they live in a town just 40 minutes away. I would say at least more than half of the people at the show are from El Paso.
Still outside, I find a wall to lean against. I'm not quite ready to go inside as I see a group of three Las Cruces boys chatting together. I stand close enough to hear them speak. They are discussing the nights turn out with people. "NickytheBull" is telling his surrounding pals how he also notices mostly El Paso folks are present. He labels them as "El Paso's Crew". This makes think of tonight as rivalry gangs or something. El Paso on one side and Las Cruces on the other.
As usually a band starts tuning and we make our way inside. I suddenly feel as though I am in an unfamiliar place as it is flooded with El Paso kids. Luckily everyone is greeting each other with a warm welcome and very supportive as usual. I see "NickytheBull" interacting with someone from El Paso. They seems to have a lot of history as they are laughing and joking together. Very happy to see one another. As more people arrive through the door, the warm greetings never seem to end. It is reminding me of some sort of reunion. The Las Cruces and El Paso "crews" are coming together.
The evening is typical as this style of music is heavier. Due to the spin kicks and other various forms of hard core dancing, a handful of us are forced to flee for safety into a back room of the venue. I find it was safer to remain here than potentially get kicked elsewhere.
I can still see the crowd having what seems to be the time of their life. If someone fell, they were helped back up on their feet. After each bands set, they were praised by their friends and families. I think about the very unfortunate things I've heard about people and terrible circumstances in the world just this past week. I can't believe that in a place as underground as this venue, people cooperate, respect, and love one another here.
