When I arrived, there were many people there. I went around introducing myself and there were 4 aunts, 6 uncles, the aunts and uncles wives and husbands, the grandparents, her parents and all the other cousins, which I counted to be like 10. Although I cannot remember exactly who was who’s child, they were from the my friends fathers side. Again, I find it amazing how a mother can bear 10 children! That sounds extremely painful, I think I would have enough with just two. Which this makes me think about how years ago, the larger families were in, but now the average family has 2 and a half children, which I don't understand how you can have half a child but there are much smaller families now.
The cousins were grouped off basically by age. Those who were the youngest were running around, playing on trampoline and some were too entertained with their parents phones playing videos games. These children ranged from 3-5 years old. The next group was around 10-14 they were also playing games on their phone and they were also having x-box tournaments inside the house. The two 17 and 18 year olds, were hanging out with me and my friend, because they were annoyed by the younger children. But I don't understand how they could’ve been annoying if they are so much fun! Especially the 3-5 year olds ask them anything and they’ll come up with the funniest answers.
Anyway, the adults were talking about things such as their jobs, I got the infamous question about what I’m studying. Which is something that I can expect whenever I’m around new adults, because how else can you start to make conversations with small talk? They all started talking about how much times have changed and how now technology is taking over, which is true. One of the uncles was talking to his son, but his son was so focused on his phone that he didn't even hear what his father was saying. This seemed to bother the father, which is understandable, because he just told his son to forget about it and that he should just go back inside if he was going to be on his phone instead. This seemed to hurt the son, so he put his phone down and didn't use it as much had he had been earlier. This was common for many of the other children too. I find it to be very sad, because it is true.
Before having a phone was not a necessity but now it has turned into a full blown necessity. It appears that no matter where you are, you cant get away from technology.
