Payment Methods

When grocery shopping you usually see a lot of people using their debit or credit card. Most of what we do today is through technology. Of course we still have people who rely solely on cash when paying. But there are people who use both cash and their card. Believe it or not there’s still people who use checks too.

You see a lot of different people use different methods for paying when at the grocery store. I think that this is the most common place you see people using different methods of payment. This is because most grocery stores take all types of payment methods. For example there’s EBT and checks, most places don’t take accept these types of payment methods. This is why this is the most common place you see different types of payment methods.

It was last week that I was in line at Albertsons and noticed how many different types of payment methods there were. The lines were ridiculously long when I was there patiently waiting to pay for my things. You could see the customers getting frustrated with the employees. In the employees’ defense it wasn’t their fault that the lines were this long. They seemed to be doing all that they could to get us all out of there on this busy day.

The first person I noticed was an older lady who was paying with a check. I also noticed that it seemed to be the older women and men who paid with checks. I’m guessing this is because they find debit cards confusing. I also noticed that the older people who used checks also proceeded to take cash out. I never even knew that this was possible with checks.

It was all the younger people at the store who used debit or credit cards. I noticed that most of the younger people also used cash a lot too. I myself always use my debit card. Occasionally I use cash only when I have it on me. But all of the younger people that used debit cards never pulled cash out. Maybe this is because they’re all young college students struggling like myself.

One thing I also noticed was that the other half of the young people in the store used another different method of payment. These other young people used EBT. Which is food stamps. I figured this is because some of them have children and really need to use EBT to get by. It was only the really young people that seemed to use EBT. I assume this is because financial security isn’t very secure at a young age for most of us.

I found it interesting that the different methods of payments depended on age. I’m sure it’s not always like this but from what I observed it was. Most of the older people used checks and the younger people seemed to be more comfortable with using debit cards. Maybe this is because this is what we’ve grown up to know and same thing with the other people who were using different methods.
