Today's weather is just right. It's about 80 degrees outside, the sun is shining and you can hear the birds chirping. The wind is still, the trees are still. The clouds are nowhere to be found. It's a little warm for an October day, I would have thought it would have been a little bit chilly. But yet again, Mother Nature is god. We cannot see her, but we know she is there. Today is the perfect day to write my field note.
I'm walking into the building through the front doors, and I see a father with his two children. A girl, and a boy. They are both small in age and in height. They seem to be about three to four years old.
The father is on the computers doing some type of work. His kind of clothes seems casual. He is wearing a black polo shirt with kaki cargo shorts and black running shoes. He has a NMSU cap. His son is dressed almost the same as he is. His son has a green t-shirt on, with kaki cargo shorts, and dark grey running shoes. The father's little girl has a cute little pink floral dress with white sandals.
The dad was concentrated on his work meanwhile his kids were well behaved. The little boy had a famous book with him; Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? The little girl had a My Little Pony Coloring book and crayons. While I take a good look, both children are entertained with their items. They are not interrupting their dad with his work.
Ten minutes later, I see the children switch their items. For such a small age, these kids know how to share. From taking classes for my major; Early Childhood Education, kids don't start to learn to share at about 6 years old. The father's children are super intelligent, and seem to be well educated.
I then hear the little girl say, "Daddy, daddy, look." The little girl begins reading the story. Well, she tries her best. She is the most adorable little thing I have ever seen! The dad looks over his daughter and tells her what a great job she is doing, and to keep practicing her reading. I look at the little boy, he is now standing near his dad showing him the page he is coloring. The dad says the boy, "Great job!"
"I am almost done" the father says to his kids...
"Okay, I'm finished. You guys hungry?" he asks. "Yes!" the kids scream of joy. The father asks them where they would like to eat, and with the same response, they say "McDonalds"
The dad agrees while he packs up his book and logs out of the computer. He holds his children's hand and walks away quietly. A father who makes time for his children is an excellent parent and a great role model for his children. A family like this would be such a perfect one. As I see them walk out door, I pack up my things and get ready to leave.
