Ripples to Waves

The water is calm and ripples barely show on the surface. The place is quiet and a sense of tranquility fills the air. For the past 15 minutes it has just be myself and the water, myself and the sun, myself and soft cold breeze. As the presence of people embrace the venue the place comes alive. No longer are ripples in the water absent, they are now barely visible amongst the waves.  The copious amounts of splashing draw attention to the water and the people who have chosen to inhabit it. There is a group of guys and girls probably in their early 20’s. They are all loud, consuming alcohol and having a great time. Smiles are not in short supply at all. It seems everyone here can’t wipe the ear to ear smile off their face. Props have entered the water. Two water guns and a beach ball are being used to amplify the great time.

There is a sexual presence that stands quite strong amongst the group. With all of the girls in bikinis and topless guys it I bound to happen. So much sexual expression fills the area. With all the testosterone comes sexual desire and with that a physical presence is seen. Starting innocently with a throw into the water or a brush of a hand as you walk past. You can see at least 3 of the guys trying their luck with the females. The females do seem interested. With the laughing and smiles it seems clear that the advances made are welcome. After about 20 minutes of this flirtatious water engagement the group of people get out of the water and relax by the water.

They turn on what seems to be a portable speaker and the country music fills the venue quite well. I can’t even see the speaker but I can hear it as if it is an earphone lodged tightly in my ear. Song after song after song the country music genre is heard. This has to be an American thing. It seems as if every ingle song that is played talk about women in bikinis, beer that is ice cold and always the mentioning of a pick-up truck. Even though the lyrics seems so similar to be fair they are all very catchy. This music seems so foreign to me but I’m sure that with time it will stick.

As I leave the venue I take one look back to see the status of the group. To conclude on what I see, they are happy. They are just a group of friends having a really good time. Is the alcohol affecting it? Maybe, but if so then a very small amount. These people have come here to let go and enjoy the sun and the water. Once again we observe this venue to be a place of good times and happiness. As I leave this venue for the 7th time, I leave with a smile because when you are at this place and the people around you are having a great time you can’t help but smile and appreciate what this venue has done for you.
