A Cheery Wednesday Afternoon

Today in the café I take a different seat than I usually do to gain a new perspective of the café. I am surrounded by a light and humorous atmosphere. Everyone around me appears to be having a great Wednesday afternoon and you can easily identify bright smiles around the room. The café is quite busy today but the bookstore is completely empty. The catchy tunes of pop music play in the background. I grab my pen and begin to examine the people around me with a close eye.

To the left of me sit two very proud parents of a beautiful newborn baby boy. The father is gleaming with pride as he holds his son. The mother appears also proud but looks very tired. The couple appeared young, and had both purchased iced teas. The father held the baby the entire time they were at the café to probably give his wife a break from her demanding job as a new mother. The baby was small and wore a light blue onesie and appeared sleepy, but content with his simple life.

After watching this new couple cherish their new family member I look to the table next to them and see two young college students, both female, who continue to break into laughter. Both are sitting on the booth side and are watching a video on a laptop. It must be a hilarious video because the girls could not stop laughing for a very long time. These two girls must be best friends because they appear very close and know each other very well. Alyssa and Malyssa are wearing the same concert t-shirt and also are wearing their hair in a similar manner. Not only did these two dress alike and have the same hairstyle they also displayed the same characteristics such as the same laugh. Alyssa and Malyssa had purchased a pastry as well as an iced mocha.

Across from Alyssa and Malyssa is a female college student who is sitting by herself. She has a tablet on the small café table, and headphones connected to the device to listen to music. She appears busy with homework but occasionally takes small breaks by taking a bite from her pastry or a sip from her large, cherry red iced tea. Cherry had long, dark brown hair that was tied up in a ponytail. She wore jeans and a casual sweatshirt.

All three tables down from Cherry had a male with a laptop open. All three of these males who were on their laptops were by themselves and appeared to be studying or doing homework, while listening to music. All three wore casual clothing and appeared focused on the work that they were conducting. One male who had a beanie on his head occasionally took drinks from a medium sized coffee. The other two males had purchased large iced teas.

On the other side of the café was a college student who had his longboard propped up against the chair he was sitting in. Longboard John held in right hand a large iced tea and in his left hand he held his phone. Longboard John had headphones on, which were connected to his cellphone enabling him to watch a video on his small screen. Longboard John would occasionally take small sips from his iced tea, and also look up from his small screen to look around the café.

Behind Longboard John sat a man who had chosen a window seat. At first I thought this man was taking selfies but then I realized that he was Face Timing a friend on his iPhone. Face Timer Tim had earplugs connected to his iPhone so that he could distinguish his friend’s voice from the mixed sounds in the café. Occasionally, Tim would adjust the angle of his phone by holding it at a different position which was quite entertaining to watch as he switched his arm positions as well as the angle of his face.
