End of Summer

It is late afternoon at the duck pond and the weather is really nice. It is warm and it seems like the intense summer heat has finally passed. There is no wind and the only downside is all the mosquitoes flying around.

Under a tree there is a lady, Beth, dong yoga on a mat. She is listening to music and does a few stretches to warm up.  Beth does yoga for about twenty minutes changing her position every few minutes.

A group of four students walks around the pond a few times and then they come to a stop on the bridge. The four guys lean against the bridge just talking and occasionally throwing rocks into the water. They stay and chat for about fifteen minutes and then walk off.

Shortly after I arrive a couple, Daniel and Delilah, shows up and takes a seat on a bench. They just sit and talk and shortly after move up to sit on the grass. They continue to talk and are still sitting there when I leave.

A few football players pass by the pond causally talking. They are coming from the Aggie Memorial Stadium area and are all listening to music. By the way they are dressed in workout clothes I suspect they are coming the weight room or gym.

A young man, Eddie, takes a seat on a table and is drinking is drinking a Starbucks coffee. He sits on the bench looking at his phone and taking occasional drinks. Eddie stays for five minutes, just long enough to finish his drink and is gone.

A dad, Frank, with two girls, Brittany and Cindy, show up to fish the pond. The group sets up by the bridge and the dad takes out some speakers and starts playing music. After a few minutes the girls have already caught two fish. For the first time in the past few weeks I’ve actually seen someone catch a fish. The girls are very happy reeling them in. When Frank catches one he lets his daughters reel it in, as they seem to enjoy it.

Over by the Piñon Dorms I can see a student who appears to be searching for something on the ground. He is walking around covering the same area and is shining a flashlight to the floor. He keeps looking down and just walks slowly in circles probably looking for something he dropped earlier.

Today everything was very calm at the pond. There were less people here than usually. This week I came on a Tuesday instead of the usual Thursday or Friday and noticed much less activity going on.
