Tour Dog

Ah, a nice chilly October night. Perfect "on the verge of creepy" feeling for a punk venue. This month really allows the place to come into it's own. As predicted, another touring band is said to play tonight. This Friday evening of fieldwork shall be my kick start to the weekend.

I reach my destination at about nine. This time I don't hesitate to go inside as it is a bit nippy for me outdoors along with all the misfits huddled together smoking. As I walk through the entrance I notice a table with two unfamiliar faces seated behind it. On the table sits a jar that reads "donations". Very cool. I assume if this is a donation show, many will be in attendance. The two unfamiliar faces gaze at me. I gather that they are desperate for money, as they will need the gas for the next tour date. In typical cheap fashion, I pull out two dollars and shove it in the jar. Reaching out of the jar, the slits of the lid scratch my hand. I continue on into the venue.

To my surprise, the venue is kind of empty and chilly. Equipment is set up and things seem to be moving along smoothly. Cade and Nick are of course in attendance and appear to be very excited to see this act. Up front a woman is setting up a bass drum and microphone. I see her grab a guitar and sit down behind the bass drum. I am suddenly very interested as I realize that this one man act is a female. This place never fails to bring new and interesting things. I find myself growing attached to this place. It begins to frustrate me the more I discover how little people come out and support an act.

I walk further to the other side of the room just to scope out the rest in attendance. I'm approaching the worn out couches and I see a curled up dark chocolate object. It's dog! Wow anything and anyone are truly welcome here. Well behaved and obviously sleepy, the dog continues to lay there.

Moments go by and the musician finishes her set which by the way, was truly amazing. She is the only artist that played tonight which would explain this being a donation show. It's 10:40 and things are already wrapped up and shut down. I see the donation table and it's watchers outside loading up. The chocolate dog is surrounding their van and suddenly hops into an open door.

Everyone has gone their separate ways after another calm night at the venue until next time.
