Weekends

For this week's observation I decided to go the the gym on the weekend, my off days. I had never been to this gym on the weekend, so I didn't know what the crowd would be like. I walk into the building at 12:30 pm on a Saturday afternoon, and I immediately notice that it was actually quite empty. I assume because people are busy on most saturdays, with family or other commitments. As for the people there, it seemed to be a regular saturday workout.

I sign in at the front desk, and only notice one familiar worker, the rest were unfamiliar. Ally greeted me while she took my card number, I walked to the locker room. It's quiet as usual, two middle aged women in separate isles getting ready to leave, another woman fixing her hair in the mirror.

I walked to the machines and see less people at the weights, where I usually see men lined up waiting to use. There is an equal amount of men and women working out, but not a lot of people total. This was probably the slowest gym days I have observed thus far.

I sit at a machine and see two young men conversing while using two machines in one exercise. They looked like they were taking turns after each set because they were taking up both of the weight strings. At the next machine, a middle aged woman was using an ab machine alone. Above her were two men using the stair master machines, it looks like they have been on there for awhile because they both appeared very sweaty. Both of the men were wearing headphones, and did not appear to know one another. A woman with a purple shirt walked past me sweeping up the floors with headphones in, her and another man seemed to be working the floor that day.

I look to my left and notice the hip and thigh machines were only being used by women, because you really only find the guys at the arm and weights section. All three women kept to themselves looking outward towards the big windows facing the street.

Two older women sat two bikes away from each other, both using headphones that were plugged into their machine to watch TV. They did not appear to know one another, but they both seemed to be tuned into the same TV show because they both faced the same direction and laughed at the same moment. It seemed to me that they were both watching Keeping Up With the Kardashians, which is a bit unusual for two older women to be watching. Other than the people mentioned, it was quite a slow and calm weekend at the gym.
