Coffee Crazed pt 6

Red was back, that was the first thing I noticed when I walked into the shop. The other thing that I noticed is that it was packed!  The employees were all frantically back to their intense work routines. I couldn’t even find a place to sit inside because it was so packed so I decided to try the outside patio. It was a nice change of pace.  The air still smelled like coffee beans. Outside I could still see the rush of customers but I noticed that outside it were mostly older couples. The first couple I saw was two Caucasian elderly women. They talked about their grandchildren. I could tell that they had been friends for many years as they were laughing like they were young again.  They were both drinking large teas.
Sitting at the table beside them was a couple, I’m assuming they were married and even though they hardly said a word to each other, I could tell that they were perfectly content, just enjoying each other’s presence. They held hands and looked onto the sunset and whispered into each other’s ears, which often led to quiet laughter.
At the table directly to the left of me sat a man, probably in his early 70s, reading a book. He was very calm. Inside I saw a seat open up so I went in and sat down. A group of high school kids sat and loudly talked about their schools latest sporting event. It seemed as though they weren’t fond of their respective high schools as they didn’t really have anything nice to say about their teams. They quickly transitioned the conversation into talking about the crazy rager that they attended last night. As they openly talked about alcohol consumption the older people in the shop looked onto them with disgust. However the younger, college aged kids, looked at them and laughed, probably thinking about their high school days.
The line for the bar was huge and Red was doing her best to stay calm as the influx of orders piled on. Even the drive through line was very busy so the employees were as serious as they could be. Inside many people were reading books and doing homework as usual. The strangest thing I saw today was a homeless man stumble in the door. He approached each customer and asked every person in the shop if they wanted to purchase banana bread. Everybody including myself said no, but I was curious what would happen if someone would say yeas because he didn’t have anything with him. After many customers were visibly uncomfortable Red finally stepped in and asked the man to leave. He started rambling angrily but finally complied and left the shop.
As I left the shop was still super busy.
