No Class Monday

Due to the cancellation of class I decide to head over to my field site and begin conducting my field study for the week. Usually I conduct my field study in the early afternoon but today it’s a different time since it’s still morning. I walk in and the café is fairly busy this morning. The atmosphere is calm and you can hear pop tunes playing in the background mixed with the sounds of the espresso machine.

As I walk in I see an older man sitting in a comfy chair with a newspaper in hand. He has a medium sized coffee sitting next to him on a small table. He appears content and has a slight smile on his face. He has a red ball cap on with a flannel shirt and jeans.  He looks up to see who walked in and after making contact with me he grants me with his sweet smile then looks down upon his newspaper and continues to read.

Once I sit down I examine the people surrounding me. There is a young man who appears to be a college student sitting across from me. He has his laptop open and is on the phone making plans with a friend for a vacation time. He has a medium sized coffee to the right of him; his sunglasses are on the table next to a plastic blue water bottle. He is wearing a brown ball cap with camo detailed on it, a brown t-shirt and a pair of light blue jeans. Eventually, Camo man is accompanied by a friend who appears like an older college student. Camo man’s friend has a beard and is wearing a navy blue shirt with jeans. He is advising Camo man on looking ahead for the future talking about jobs, education opportunities, if it would be beneficial for him to get his graduate degree and etc.

To the right of me sits an English teacher who is advising students individually. He has a nose piercing and a tattoo sleeve on his left arm. He has a laptop open to go through the grades with his students. He is very sincere in what he tells his students and informs them what elements their paper was missing but also what he enjoyed about their paper. So far he has met with two female students who seem to be excelling in the class.

Farther right sits a young man who is wearing a green t-shirt and has really curly blonde hair. He purchased two drinks one happens to be a small coffee while the other is a small iced tea. Curly is reading multiple articles but switches his focus from reading the articles to texting and vice versa. Curly has a notepad which he writes down interesting information from the articles he is reading and transcribes them to his notepad.

To the left of me sits a young woman who is dressed in black who seems to fit the Goth look. Ms. Goth is preoccupied with her Nintendo DS which surprisingly is bright pink. She has not purchased anything from the café but just sits alone playing her video game.  A few minutes later she is joined by a friend who is also dressed in Goth attire. Both are Hispanic and speak Spanish to each other. After talking with each other for a few minutes they both leave the café and go outside.

There is a young woman who walks in to the café wearing a tank top that has a pattern of elephants on it accompanied with a soft crème sweater. Elle sits down at one of the small café tables and pulls out her phone to text. A few minutes later she is accompanied by a young man who is wearing a blue t-shirt and light blue jeans. He sits with her for a little bit but then they both get up and get in line to get an item from the café.

A tall platinum blonde woman, who has bright red lipstick, walks in and appears to be wearing expensive clothing accompanied with an expensive black purse. Blondie picks a small table in the café and pulls out her phone to begin texting. She seems restless about something and after texting she looks up constantly looking for someone. After sitting for only a minute Blondie stands up and leaves the café.
