On last week’s observation, I had a pretty good day. I hung
out with the O.U.G. (Organization Under God) and they made the day more fun.
And then, I found out that they had a different type of meeting on Monday,
rather than Thursday. But it was for freshman only. However, since I was new,
one of the group leader told me that it would be swell to have me around for
that day. I wanted to observe them a little more. So, I decided that it would
be a good thing to do.
On Monday, I went down to the biggest building on campus,
where the group was holding their meeting on the 3rd floor. It took
a while for me to find the room where they were staying, considering that I
rarely go anywhere in the building other than the 1st floor. But I
managed to find it. When I entered the room, I was surprised. It seemed as if
they expected me to be there. I decided to just take my seat and enjoy myself.
And then I realized, they had free pizza. I was starving, so of course I went
to the table to get some.
One of the group leaders stood up and announced the
introduction. He welcomed everyone who was new to the O.U.G. and said that
there was going to be a game for us to play. Games? This has got to be fun.
However, I was stuffed from the food. So I sat out.
The game appeared to be Charades. Everyone was yelling out
the answers till they got the answers right. I myself was bad at Charades, but
I felt like yelling the answer. However, I decided that it’d be best to be
quiet.
After the game, the head of the group stood up and thanked
everyone for coming to the meeting. It was the same man who had spoken about
God the week before. And again, he spoke about God. He spoke with the same
passion that he had used the week before, and possibly every week! It amazed
me. After speaking, he told everyone in the group to take out the Bibles and
read a few verses from the book. I had no idea about this. I didn’t even know
we had to have a Bible for this. Now, I felt bad.
The first thing that the group leaders did though was show a
video. The video was about a man who had lost everything with nowhere else to
go. He sat on a chair with nothing but a lamp next to him. He seemed depressed
as he spoke about his past life. It was sad to hear. But then, he spoke about
how God changed his life. He spoke about how having faith in God made him more
emotionally strong. It was incredible!
After the video, we split into smaller groups and read a few
verses. The entire group discussed about how the Bible related to the man’s
story. Members of the group said that it was related because even though the
man had lost so much, his faith in God allows him to feel more powerful. It
made me feel
more powerful.
Finally, the meeting ended there. It ended with a prayer,
like any other religious meeting would. It felt great to reach out to this
group. I feel like it’ll be fun to be a huge part of the O.U.G.!
