Sharing is Caring!

It’s a typical Friday day and I enter the building. I head to the Starbucks and decide to just grab a seat this time and not grab a drink because I am full from the meal I ate during lunch. Although I am not grabbing a drink I still notice the employee working at the coffee bar. I recognize one of the employees once again and it’s Sarah. This time Sarah is working with another employee that I haven’t seen before, Carol. Carol is wearing glasses and a black fancy work shirt. All of a sudden Sarah leaves the shop and goes into the Barnes and Noble to help at the customer service desk. Like I mentioned in the previous field work Starbucks employees can work both jobs at the book store and at the Starbucks. As Sarah leaves I don’t think she notices that the line is getting longer and leaves Carol to handle all the customers by herself. Although Carol is by herself she seems to be handling everything very well and not falling behind.

As Carol keeps on helping the customers a family of three sit on the table to my right. The family consists of grandma, Denise, the son, Benjamin, and Denise’s granddaughter Courtney. They seem to have ordered a chocolate cheesecake for Courtney. Courtney seems excited about the cheesecake which tells me that she loves chocolate, well who doesn’t love chocolate. As Courtney digs into the cheesecake Denise asks her for a bite. Courtney reacts like any 7 year old child would and tells her she can only take a small bite. Once Denise take a bite Courtney complains that she is getting too much and that’s all she is going to get because the rest is hers. Benjamin tells Courtney that she needs to be polite because sharing is caring. Although Benjamin tells her that Courtney doesn’t listen and keeps complaining to not share her cheesecake.

As the family keeps discussing about the cheesecake all of a sudden a phone rings and its Denise’s phone. Denise says that it’s Courtney’s mother calling. I can’t hear the call but as Denise keeps talking to Courtney’s mother they all get up and leave in a hurry and if it seemed an emergency. They head through the bookstore towards the exit and I lose sight of them.

Although the family of three has left I notice two elderly women sitting in the table right behind where the family of three was. The two elderly women, Rosa and Jessa, seem to be having a conversation about dogs. Rosa is wearing a flower print blouse with blue dress pants and Jessa is wearing a business suit attire. Rosa is telling Jessa how she wants another dog besides the one she already has because she loves dogs, but it’s hard for her when her and her husband travel because they don’t want to leave their dogs behind. As their conversation continues I can’t seems to hear no more because more customers are ordering drinks and the blenders are going off. It has gone from a calm atmosphere to a loud atmosphere.  It seems that Carol is not alone making drinks anymore there is another girl helping her by being at the register taking drinks.

Something that I have noticed is that there is a lot of elderly people when I come early in the day and I don’t know why that is. I guess it’s because they like to be here early before the afternoon gets here and the mall if filled up with a lot of teenagers.  A group of elderly friends sit on the table where the original family of three was. One of the elderly man grabs a chair for his elderly woman friends and I think to myself what a gentleman, those men still exist!  The group of friends sit and they are asking each other what they got to drink. I hear iced coffee from one and a Frappuccino from another. The Starbucks keeps getting fuller and fuller while the bookstore is pretty empty. There is only people passing by the bookstore but that’s because they are heading towards the exit to the parking lot. I pack my stuff and join those people and head to the exit as well. I would say it was somehow a slow not too much action Friday afternoon. Until next time.
