THE LAST CUSTOMER!!!

I put on my headphones and open my front door. I take one step outside and realize how cold it was and immediately returned to my room for a hoodie. En route to my field site I walk past a young lady sitting in the dark on the sidewalk all alone. She seemed to be crying; being the person I am I asked her if she was ok and she replied yes. I then told her to take care and that it was going to be alright and she replied “thanks. I need that.”

Arriving at my field site and looking through the window, the restaurant was as empty as a generous man’s pockets. I stepped in and greeted Wayne the waiter and asked him why the place is so empty. He replied that a couple of people were dining earlier and had left like ten minutes before. Keep in mind that I got there about 9:00pm which is an hour before closing time.

I ordered a chicken taco and a grape flavored juice. My order was ready in about ten minutes and I sat at one of the table facing the television.

While eating my taco I witnessed two cars in the drive thru. The mean waiting time in the drive thru seemed to be about five minutes per customer.  Wayne the waiter quickly attended to both customers and they were off on their way.

My chicken taco was fairly great. The taco I had in my third visit here at my field site was fried. This time I requested for them not to be fried and in my opinion they tasted much better. The plate consisted of rice, beans, shredded cheese and three corn tortilla rolls stuffed with chicken and diced vegetable sauce. These vegetable were namely tomato, onion, cilantro and sweet pepper, I could also taste a somewhat vinegar and lime combination which I assume the vegetables were soaked in.

My grape juice was also as good as the taco plate. It seemed to be regular artificial grape flavoring but somewhat tasted magical on a cold Friday night. I guess it was just what the doctor ordered.

At this time it was 9:45 PM and Wayne the waiter started taking the trash out. No other customer had walked in or out the building while I was there. Guess I’m a loner for tonight. I disposed of what was left in my plate and commence my journey back to the apartment.
