The week of Rain

For this week of practice the weather conditions were not ideal. Due to the weather issues, the team could not practice like a regular week. A few of the players were very disappointed that they could not practice outside and get ready for this week’s game. Instead of going outside, the team went into the basketball gymnasium. Obviously, this was an unfamiliar way of practicing football. A few of the student athlete’s did not even want to practice in the gym. A group of a few players did not take this as seriously as some of the others, and decided to horse around. The athletes that did want to be there, got on to the athletes that were fooling around, encouraging them to still try to get better even though the practice conditions were not ideal. On Tuesday, however, the team could practice outside for about an hour, until the rain and clouds came rolling in. You could tell some of the players were keeping an eye on the clouds, hoping they would not suspend practice early two days in a row. Unfortunately, the rain and lightning would end practice early once again. All around the players were more focused on still doing their assignments and working to get better. I believe that things were in more a disarray on Monday because the athlete’s had not experienced a weather delay yet. On Wednesday, the field was very wet, but the athletes were looking forward to playing football on a wet field and in the mud. Obviously, with these conditions, everybody had to be more cautious of avoiding injuries. There was more of a, ‘pep in their step’ on Wednesday because it was the first full day of practice being outside. There was more of a sense of urgency from everybody, including both players and coaches. Things were finally feeling normal again. Practice on Wednesday went smooth and the players were excited to play their game on Thursday. Because of the bad conditions all week, the game ended up getting canceled on Thursday. A majority of the players were visibly upset after hearing the news. If you’ve ever played sports, you know that game day is by far the best day of the week. One athlete in particular came up to me and expressed his disappointment. He told me this was the best he has felt so far this season, and told me how mad he was that they could not play this week’s game. The team has some good positive leaders on it, and they tried to keep everybody’s spirits up even though they would not play an actual game this week.
