Morti

Another week of fieldwork is about to ensue. I am becoming slightly disinterested in my site as the weeks progress. Luckily, this weeks switch in routine kept things intriguing just when I need it.

Again, it's about 9 pm and I'm off to my site. I pull round the corner and see a fairly empty lot. Typically, the events never begin on time but I also observe the venue door shut and locked, lights off, and I am seated in my car trying to process what's going on. I step out of the vehicle and find a note on the door. How kind of these promoters, they've moved tonights special event to a house just blocks away from mine. The "Hansen Mansion". Off I go.

I arrive on Evans Dr and squeeze into a parking space around the block. Wow, their neighbors must be pretty easy going. The moment I step out of my vehicle and approach the "Hansen Mansion", I notice that other than a change in location, the environment and elements are not much different than that of the punk venue. This reminds me of my first night of fieldwork at the venue. Here I am again dodging several clouds of smoke. Familiar faces come out of the darkness of night as I get closer to the front door. Wow, some regulars are here as well.

As I open the door and step into the living room, I hear around the corner and to my left is the music playing in a den. Like the punk venue, the crowd is a lot more congested in this area. Across the den I see, between the shoulders of two girls, Nick and Cade hanging and talking together as they due at the other venue. All around me is a fair amount of mingling and conversation going on. The crowd has really managed to bring the vibe of the punk venue into a home.

I realize tonights music is of three acoustic bands. This shift in behavior of the crowd is very calm and relaxed. The musicians have their crowds attention.

Though the music is a slower and different genre from the punk venue, the show goers appear to be just as passionate about this event and the locals that are playing. I notice the space has been a little more respected. "Witchy", one of the guys that lives in the home, walks around collecting donations for the touring band. I see many in attendance gladly donate the few bucks they have. I don't feel out of place here. The home has a similar yet different vibe from the other venue, but everyone remains occupied by their own group or the bands playing.

I never would have thought a scene of people would respectively come together in a home. This has exposed me to yet another interesting side to this music scene.
