The smell of coffee

I walk into the coffee shop this evening and the smell of coffee or rather the aroma of coffee being roasted is in the air. The employees seem very busy but always contain this laid back aura about them. I wonder if this "easy" attitude is handed down to them from the owner or management or if this relaxing aura of the employees is simply a product of the for their jobs and enjoyment for what they do. I mean hell making coffee all day would get me in a good attitude too.

As I enter into the coffee shop I order me a cup of medium roast coffee, this evening being a coffee bean from Kenya. I chose this particular region and roast because the Kenya medium roast that I have had before from this coffee shop happens to have a flavor profile of that which will compliment the cigar that I have also chosen for tonights venture. The Kenya medium roast has balanced earthy and fruity notes with a hint of bitterness on the foreground of which the cigar that I have chosen has earth, chocolate, and coffee notes to the flavor profile. So I am quite excited about this pairing of imported, single region coffee and imported, hand rolled, premium cigar.

I take a seat on bench in the small patio of the coffee shop where the big puffs of smoke from my cigar will not damper anyone else's visit that happens to be sitting nearby and also where I have a good view of all the action in or around the shop.

I observe two young women sitting on the other side of the patio having a small bite to eat along with their coffee. The two women both brunettes and both have a dog sitting next them on the ground by their table. And they are talking about how they get up early every morning before classes or work and exercise with their dogs alongside of them. They discuss the different running or walking trails that they have discovered around the city that seem to be quite dog friendly.

I also observe the table next to mine has two older men both sitting with hot coffees in hand smoking some hand rolled cigarettes. Discussing their daily schedules with one another, of what their daily routines consist of and what bad habits they have obtained over the years. It was quite interesting to observe the differences between the two tables, yet also, the similarities between the two. Yes the tables were different in that one table had two women with dogs by their sides and the other table had two men smoking cigarettes. Yet, the tables were same in that the two parties were discussing their daily routines, they were carrying a peaceful conversation, the two tables had a pair of the same gender and they all four were drinking hot coffee.

After observing for awhile, I was coming to my last third of the cigar and my last few drinks. So I decided that this was a good time to end my double O work and walk into the quickly cooling evening with the faint smell of tobacco and coffee in the autumn air.
