In front of me, there’s booth full of older gentlemen speaking in spanish and laughing. All of them are eating heaping plates full of spaghetti and drinking power aide. The one that’s sitting directly across from me keeps looking my way. It’s strange to me that he has no idea that I’m doing my homework about him.
Behind me, two gentleman who are wearing suites and bow ties are talking about a presentation they gave. It’s hard to hear the exact conversation, however their tone gave me the idea that they were upset with the results of the presentation. They’re not eating anything at the moment but do have disposable cups filled with coffee.
Most of the patrons today are males. I’d say there’s a 1:5 ratio of females to males. My guess is that females want to limit their time here in order to count their calories. Perhaps I’ll see more people of my own gender at dinner.
Once again, most of the ethnicities are sitting together. There are a group of Asian girls to my right, white guys to my left, and several tables of two people that follow the pattern.
Far ahead of me, two girls I recognize from my high school are gossiping. I know that they’ve recently joined a sorority thanks to their Instagram posts. I wonder if that’s what they’re talking about.
It seems to be a trend that groups of 2 or 3 will sit in the extra large booths here. I don’t understand the reasoning behind that at all. I figured the large booths were for large groups of people. Whatever.
The difference today is that pretty much nobody is sitting alone. I thought for sure that I’d see in increase as today is a school day and people would be stopping in alone for a quick bite to eat in between classes. However, that is not the case. I wonder how people are able to find their friends in between classes.
A blonde boy approached the sorority girls I recognize, he’s sitting with them now. Perhaps he is in a fraternity.
The workers are bustling around, washing tables. They aren’t in quite as big as a rush as they usually seem to be. They may be winding down for the weekend.
The older Mexican man in the booth ahead of me keeps winking at me. I’m thoroughly creeped out and don’t know how much longer I can sit here. What makes men think that women want their creepy unsolicited sexual advances???? Very disturbing. He is at least 40 years old.
The group of Asian girls continues speaking a different language very quietly to each other. They have finished all of the food that they were previously picking at. They are very calm.
There are a lot of hats being worn today as well, all of them NMSU hates and only the males here are wearing them. They’re probably showing school spirit for the upcoming UNM vs NMSU football game. The school spirit here is apparent. Nearly everyone is wearing some sort of NMSU gear including myself.
A white guy came up to the guy who keeps winking at me. They have a class together and the white guy is asking how to say things in Spanish. They keep repeating “vamanos pueste” to each other. The older Spanish-speaking man seems like a normal guy when he’s not being a total creep.
The lunch rush as officially cleared out as the workers have sat down to eat themselves. It’s my cue to leave. Until next time.
