Beer and Culture

Another Sunday and another day at this sensational location. The sun is out and that means that it is well populated. With three different groups of people present there are so many similarities and obscurities. For the fourth week in a row the sound of a can being cracked open echoes throughout the venue. Beers, beers and more beers. It seems to be the beverage of choice for these college students.

Each person is wearing clothing relating to their physique. Some of the more overweight people and wearing a shirt and shorts and are in the water neck deep as if they are trying to cover up the rest of their body. Whilst on the other hand, the more physically fit ones are showing as much skin as possible from bikinis on the girls to little short shorts on the guys. Each girl seems to be eyeing off at least one of the males. It seems that with the exposure of skin through their choices of clothes comes the presence of sexual tension. To fuel the sexual tension is the alcohol, it seems as if with one comes the other. There are what looks like a few couples throughout the groups who showcase their relationship through physical actions and a lot of touching.

There is one group strikes me in a different way to the others. They have no alcohol, they have no bathing suites and they seem almost allergic to the h20 as they do not stray at all close the water’s edge. They are not from here, they are not speaking any English at all. Something Middle Eastern I think, maybe Arabic. They seem like they are having just as much fun as the other people here and more importantly they are a lot more engaged in conversation. They do no need the alcohol to have goodtime, they just need each other. Over the last few weeks feel as if that the people that have walked into this facility have needed to alcohol to have a great time. Maybe if they didn’t have it they would be still have great conversation but they feel as if it is necessary and it helps them dramatically. These foreign people are always smiling and laughing. There is no sunbaking like the so many others are across form the water. They don’t want to just sit there in silence they want to be involved with each other.

It is interesting to see what makes people smile and laugh and what different people classify a really good time as. Whether it’s through male and female or domestic and foreign. Culture will always be different between groups and customs that we have grown up with are so different. Something that seems so simple to us like wearing a bikini and showing off your body is something that other cultures just don’t do and even though they don’t participate in that, both groups fid similarity of the venue as a good time and they are sharing a place which makes them all happy and happiness is never a bad thing.
