Music is buzzing in this building. People create a swarm of
dancing on the dance floor, while the lights flash in synchronization to the
beat. Men and women mostly of a young adult age range circulate around the
area. Many of the occupants are carrying drinks while some carry cell phones or
purses. I can smell different scents of colognes and perfumes when groups of
individuals walk by, in combination it made the place quite inviting.
The stage DJ runs through tracks on his table and hypes the
crowd over the microphone. Whenever he says something over the loud speaker he
is met with cheer and applause. The edge of the stage is lined mainly with
women taking videos on their phones.
I notice a group of three girls approach the dance floor. The
Glitter Girls dance into the crowd for a moment and then move to the bar. They
all order a liquor shot and put it on a tab. After they finish their drink they
leave back to the stage. The Glitter Girls get consumed by the crowd of energetic
dance and disappear into the mix.
A man comes dancing by towards the stage. He stops in the
back of the crowd and proceeds to dance alone wearing a backwards cap and a
tank top. Party Animal shouts out in excitement towards the DJ and seems to
really enjoy either the music or the atmosphere. After a few minutes of
bouncing around he leaves the dance floor and goes to the exit where many
people are in line coming in.
At the entrance I see two separate lines. One line is for 21
and over in age while the other is for 18 year old individuals. In both lines I
observe that some pay the cover charge in cash and others pay with credit or
debit cards. A wristband is given to the people who are 21 once they pay. The
18 year old crowd receives a mark on their hand at the door.
A couple walks with their arms around each other strolling towards
the bar line. The White T-Shirts couple approaches the counter and waits for
service. The man, when it comes his turn, orders a beer for himself and a mixed
drink for his companion. He pays the bartender with cash and the two take a
seat at a nearby table. The White T-Shirt couple consumes their drinks and
tries to converse over the blaring music speakers.
The Glitter Girls walk out of the dance crowd and maneuver to
the exit of the building. They look exhausted from their dancing endeavor and
fan themselves with their hands to cool down. The women leave with another
group of people out the door.
I start to sense the mood in the building die down. More and
more people begin to leave and the DJ talks about wrapping up the show within a
few songs. Several individuals go to the bar to close their tab for the night
and to tip the bartender. No one else enters the building now; all the motion
is outward to the parking lot.
