Today was my new change in venue, so there wasn't much in my book for notes. Just sort of figuring out what was what and who was who.
Today I decided to post up outside of the churro/snowcone stand in the food court. It was a little easier to blend in and take notes as I was not directly in front of a venue... obviously creeping on the people working there/working around there.
I must admit that I was a little sad as all my old friends that I had gotten to "know" form my old venue were nowhere to be seen. Buzz cut, Hairspray, beardie.... It was a little strange having to bring myself to observe a fresh set of people through a new pair of eyes.
HOWEVER! Right off the bat I noticed a change in the people that were in the area. Though I didn't notice a specific trend of people that actually ordered from "Ch-ch-churro", I noticed that most of the grunge pre-teens that seem to inhabit stink valley mall congregate around the food court area, as the goth/punk shop "Apathy... or whatever" is right by the venue in question.
I'll admit I got distracted, and watched the dark figures wearing hoodies in 80 degree weather wander in and out of the store.
After I managed to bring myself back to watching "Ch-Ch-Churros", I noticed that the lady who worked there seemed to be a little bored. She would hang out, people watch, and every now and again say hey to people she knew that stopped by. It got busy during the lunch hour, and the lady handled herself skilfully handing out brightly colored snow cones with ease. Most people that stopped there handed the snow cones off to kids or lovers. It was sweet to watch!
There was one couple in particular that just about made me sick with the overwhelming feeling of sweetness.
The boy in the relationship must have been in his twenties. His head was shaved cleanly hairless, as was his face. It was pretty obvious that he must have been in the military and was down to visit his lady friend on his day off. He seemed pretty miserable at the mall, and openly complained sarcastically, rolling his eyes and acting as if the whole thing was a chore when really somehow you could tell there was nowhere in the world he would rather be. His eyes were a lighter blue (from what I could see from the table over) , and even from a distance I could tell that he was of good nature due to the obvious laugh lines around his eyes. One thing I noted as they sat and shared the snow cone was that he was quick to laugh and smile, and never hesitated to tease his girlfriend.
She could take it, though, and dish it right back out.
She was the complete opposite of him in physical appearance. Her hair was black and it was pulled up into a thick, messy bun. Her eyes were just as dark, and her skin looked like it had certainly seen more sun than his, though she couldn't really be described as tan. She was somewhere in between. She was quick to pout and give him grief, turning her head away as far as she could from him, all in good cheer. She looked like she could rebuttal his smart remarks with sassy remarks of her own, but I wouldn't say that one was more aggressive than the other. Thats why I couldn't help but watch and admire the two of them. They were so balanced and in tune and comfortable with each other that there wasn't much in the outside world either was paying attention to. They seemed like they had known each other since the start of time, and were perfectly happy to be together till the end of it.
They just seemed so classic and timeless that it was hard for me not to stare.
They looked as if they were seamless and gradual like the line where night gives way to the day, and the line where the day melts into the night.
It gave me faith that not all relationships between young people now-a-days are like how rap songs say they are.
After an hour of observation, there wasn't much I could conclude about the churro stand beside the lady that was working had a lot of friends that often stopped by to gossip and that children and girlfriends pouting for snow cones seemed to stop by the most, dragging boyfriends and hesitant parents with them.
