Underdog Winner

It is NFL Sunday here at the unit and today we’re not in our usual uniform, we are in our team jerseys. Today, you could feel the tension between the rivalry teams. My team doesn’t play till Monday night, but I could still feel the tension myself. SGT. “CowBoysFan” was boasting that his team would win like he usually does, and he quickly started betting a lot of money. Assuming the Cowboys would lose, everyone started betting him for easy cash. Like any other Cowboys fan, he was destined to lose. Even though we are in civilian attire, we still have respect for those who are higher ranked. U.S. customs and courtesies never change, and even though we rank differently, we still have respect for one another.

Throughout the day many individuals were constantly checking their laptops and phones for updates on their favorite teams’ stats and scores. The Cowboys game was underway and all the smack talking began. Early in the game the Rams were up by 21. SGT. “CowboysFan” was in a horrible mood considering he was about to lose a lot of money. Throughout the entire game everyone reminded him that he’d be the biggest loser yet. Despite all odds against him, the Cowboys made a late run in the fourth quarter to pull a victory, and SGT. “CowboysFan” was now two hundred dollars richer. Being a good sport, he invited everyone over to his house after drill to watch Sunday night football and have a few beers that were going to be bought with their money. It was not money wasted as we all got together for a good time and enjoyed ourselves.

Overall it was a great day! We respected each other and there were no sore losers. I like how even though we outrank each other we can get away with some friendly smack talk and gambling. Most of our teams came out victorious but SGT. “CowboysFan” was the real winner that night.
