Sunday Funday At The Gym

It’s a Sunday afternoon around 2 o’clock and the gym is nice and empty like it was last week when I came around the same time. I like the gym more when it is not full of people.
Today I decided to keep an eye on the workers at the gym, as apposed to watching someone working out. This came to mind because as I was working out I noticed a female worker in her 40’s working hard cleaning up the area I was in. I had not seen this woman working before. This lady seemed so content with her life as I was watching her simply sweep the floor, mop the floor, and refill the paper towels to clean the equipment. Most people who are at work, much less working hard doing manual labor, as not usually as content looking as this woman was. What caught my eye about her was the certain skip in her step that she had. When she was sweeping the floor she was dancing around and singing along to the song that was playing out loud at the gym. All the while, she maintained a smile on her face that was just so easily passed along when you saw it. She was the type of person that smiled at you whether she knew you or not.
I knew that, one again; I had to go talk to her. Because how could this woman be so happy just sweeping the floor? I had to wait for the right moment, because I didn’t want to seem creepy or weird. So as soon as she was refilling the sanitizer in the spray bottles to clean off the equipment with, I walked over acting like I was going for some paper towels and sanitizer to wipe down the machine I just used. All I said was “I hope your day is going well today, ma’am!” and she just lit up. She said “Thank you sweetie! You just have to always smile, even when life is tough.” I laughed and said, “Yeah, I guess so. Not very many people have that kind of strength so kudos to you.” She responded with “God woke me up today, blessed me with a job, and a beautiful family. Life always has beautiful moments; you just have to see them. Have a good rest of your day honey!” She then walked away and continued with her job. I walked away with so much happiness in my heart from this sweet woman.

It seems like Sundays really are the best day to come to the gym. Like I said in my last post, the gym has older people and is less packed on Sundays. To me this shows the changes throughout generations. Not very many younger people would have a conversation with a stranger like that. But this is two weeks in a row that the elderly generation has made my day. All because I am so interested so see why they act the way they do at the gym! Yay for sweet elder people!
