In my first week of field research I discovered I need to find a new time to do my research. At my current time only a handful of customers actually entered the shop. As I sat in a middle table I just noted the small aspects of this coffee shop. From the dim lights to the indie rock music it was the stereotypical coffee shop atmosphere that you would see in a movie; however the patrons were not stereotypical.
Two pairs of soccer moms, with their kids in athletic gear before they take them to practice and already starting the latest celebrity gossip and how it was "Just tragic that Joan Rivers died!" A busy middle aged man clad in slacks and a miss buttoned shirt frantically typing on an HP ordering a total of 4 tall black coffees, one sugar. A group of middle school girls giggling ordering long frozen blended drinks that had to have a cup and a half of sugar in them (maybe that would apply to the obnoxious giggling). The final patron was an elderly man just reading "Catcher in the Rye" in the corner booth with just a water.
The workers were two college aged men that looked like they despised work. The offered a lot of sighs and quite murmurs to each other followed by a chuckle. Although the coffee shop was quite, it held interesting characters; however, next week I will be going at a different time to see in there are any patrons that sit and enjoy their coffee.
