It’s Burrito Day.
For some reason every Monday we get complimentary burritos for working oh so hard. They aren’t full on burritos, just small breakfast burritos. Yet the whole office can’t wait for the office assistant to bring them in, I’ll call her Burrito Lady.
It is 8:30, and Burrito Lady is no where to found. A man asks two of my coworkers, I’ll call them Chuck and Blair, if they have seen Burrito Lady. Chuck says he saw her in the lab a while ago, and they walk off. This man, Ponytail Guy, adjusts his pony tail and looks around uncomfortably and then leaves.
It is 8:40 now, and Burrito Lady has arrived, with her fan club. There is a small group of 6 people trying to make it look like they aren’t devastatingly waiting for a chorizo burrito. Time to take notes. Ponytail Guy has come back and he is talking to Unamused guy about some field work he did a few days ago, they are standing a few feet away from the table. Burrito Lady is organizing all the food into a nice arrangement, Too Hungry To Think Lady is trying to keep busy, by moving napkins near the burritos and fiddling with the coffee machine. These people really like the free burritos.
Chuck and Blair are waiting for Burrito Lady to leave so they can dive into the collection of food. They talk about their drive here and what the weather is like, I’m not sure if they are dating or just really good friends.
Burrito Lady takes a step back, looks at the arrangement quite satisfied, and leaves. Chuck and Blair immediately grab a burrito and leave the lab. Ponytail Guy is very into his fieldwork story, while Unamused guy nervously looks at the burritos trying to inch closer to them.
Too Hungry To Think Lady has grabbed herself a burrito and some coffee she looks like she doesn’t even want, and left the premises.
Another man walks in, an older man with a southern accent, I’ll call him Johnny. Johnny walks over to Ponytail guy and says hello, and they begin talking. Unamused guy bolts for the burritos, says some typical “Back on the ol grind” phrase, and leaves. Ponytail Guy and Johnny are discussing more fieldwork, while they grab some food. I was wondering when Ponytail guy would remember the burritos.
It is 8:50 now, and the lab is back to being quiet. I wonder why everyone feels the need to get a burrito as soon as they arrive.
One person every few minutes walks in quietly and grabs their free burrito. I think maybe I want one now.
