Jocular Spectacular

I walk in, per usual, and see heads bent down. They are looking at the phones in their hands- whether they have glanced at it again for the fifteenth time, or whether they have not put it down- it does not matter. This is when there are no clientele inside. There is music put on by Rap Lover- he and Nice Shades listen to it for most of the period. They make small talk about what they will do later and what they might eat. They do this between scribbling in answers for homework assignments, and typing up paperwork for miscellaneous activities.
Some people come in, and come forward immediately with their questions. One woman- Red Hair- asks continuously about something, with a furrowed expression. She is not easily appeased, but then finally leaves. Rap Lover answers her with a measured tone and busied hands, that file through to look for her answer as she is asking it- while she is crossing her arms. Nice Shades also takes on a heavier, but measured, tone to address her concerns and pays rapt attention to the situation.
He bestows an, almost, unreal importance to the situation- seemingly- in that moment. His eye contact is almost unfaltering; his eyes glaze over a little bit when he realizes that there is nothing he can immediately do for the lady besides telling her to wait for the moment. This appears to slightly upset Nice Shades.
However, once the woman has left, Nice Shades and Rap Lover busy themselves once again with their erroneous tasks of checking their phones and half-listening to music whilst completing homework assignments.
Mister Meerkat- standing erect with a slight grin pasted on his face- zips in every now and then to see how things are going, or to answer questions that Rap Lover or Nice Shades can't answer. Though he is usually standing while the other two are sitting, he makes easy rapport and makes no tones of condescension- rather, his tone is far more colloquial and requesting of banter, at times.
Mister Meerkat is a bit older, perhaps twice the ages of Rap Lover and Nice Shades, but has the demeanor of their ages. His tone is also calm and quiet, and at the same time authoritative, and colloquial enough to get his point across in a way that the receiver understands.
Rap Lover and Nice Shades typically respond in like when engaged in conversation with Mister Meerkat, and seem to get on amicably. So much so, it seems, that they are even quite engaged when following out on their tasks.
Mister Meerkat also converses with Honey Badger, who tends to keep to himself, but offers quick and easy smiles to those who engage him in conversation. Honey Badger tends to be quite busy and is typically seen typing away at something.
What will happen next, behind these desks, behind these doors?
How else will we get to know the Meerkat and the Rap Lover? Will they become more faceted?
Perhaps what has been seen so far can suggest very little to the eyes: that some are friends, and some are merely amicable characters. But what of the motivations behind the actions? Why does Mister Meerkat always maintain a calm mien? And why do Nice Shades and Rap Lover always revert back to their phones?
We will see.
