Suggestive Thinking

I was working on a Friday night. Friday was a slow day. A slow day is where we do not have a lot of business. On Friday and Saturday there is two Bussers. One busser would work for the fine dining half of the restaurant, and the other would work for the casual dining half. On Friday nights I would work the casual dining half and on Saturdays I work the fine dining half, because Saturdays are generally busier, Although busy and slow nights do very sometimes.

Today I decided to try to suggest menu Items, even though the busser is advised to not do that due to the lack of menu knowledge. There was a table of six elderly woman that walked in around 5:40. I was filling up there water glasses and the woman asked me if we changed our menu. I told her yes and she should really try the wings.Than I followed up w\with the suggesting by saying "Every time I suggested the wings people really liked them, I've never had negative feedback on them. She smiled at me and when the server arrived she ordered them with no Question. The wings in my opinion are really good. They are a cross between Chinese and Mexican flavors. Towards the end of her meal i asked her if she liked and them, and she said she really liked them. "They are so good!"

A table of two people walked in around 5:55 came in. They were two ladies that looked around 29 to 30 years old. I introduced myself and made a suggestion that they should have calamari as an appetizer and every time I suggested them everybody really liked them. Calamari has always been a hit or a miss when it comes to recommendations. I always hear mixed opinions on them. When the were done eating the Calamari I asked them if they really liked it and they both gave positive opinions and were happy i Recommended the Calamari.

It seemed that no matter what i recommended as long as i said "Every time i recommended it people really liked it. When a table came in at 8;03 I recommended the Calamari and I said "Usually people like it but the cook is kind of inexperienced."  The table never finished a meal, and it seemed like they were not to happy about their experience.

The whole night based on how I made suggestions depended on how they liked their food. If i was unsure so were the customers, If I was enthusiastic about a food item so were they.
