Time Difference

Going to the gym in the middle of the day is much easier than going in the evening. It is about 1:45 in the afternoon and there is half the amount of people than evening times. I notice as soon as I walk into the gym that about seventy percent of the people there are older in age. I assume the younger people there are on their lunch break or something in that nature.

I walk to the locker room and notice it is empty, the bathroom only occupied by two women. Kerry and Kelly keep to themselves at opposite ends of the counter. Women who are often alone at the gym seem to just want to be left by themselves, to do their own thing.

I walk out of the locker room and start on the stair master in the back of the room. I immediately notice like last observation that most of the younger women are again on the treadmill running, not walking. Two older men are also on the treadmill, walking. The energy in the room is much more calm compared to the evening, the music playing at a lower volume and not as much people crowding every machine. I think the gym portrays a calmer environment during the day, and more upbeat in the evening when most of the people show up. A.K.A when all of the heavy lifters come.

I watch the older men first. They seem to be spread out evenly between the arm and leg machines. I also noticed that none of the older men seem to be wearing workout clothes. Every single older male wore either khaki pants or cargo shorts, with either a collared or plain shirt. I think they all go to the gym as they were dressed during the day, or they just don't have the type of clothes the younger men have. Which is usually a cutoff shirt and baggy basketball shorts.

Next, the older women. Most of them seem to be wearing khaki capris or workout capris with a bright workout shirt. When I think of bright workout clothes I think about people buying them in preparation to go to the gym. As a type of motivation. About three women have workout partners, I think because they joined the gym together, therefore motivating each other to go to the gym. As I mentioned in my first week, none of the older aged people seem to have headphones in. Either they don't have any or they don't need music to workout.

Almost every younger person had headphones in. I asked myself why they have it and the older males and females do not. Then I asked myself why I use headphones when I go to the gym. The only possible conclusion I came to was that I need music to get me through my workout, and I do not want to be bothered. I can only assume that every other person has the same idea, or maybe it's just me.
