Field Day

As I arrived at my school site, I began to wonder what the kids would be doing today. Driving to the school I was caught up on my music and admiring the weather. It seemed to be the beginnings of a great day lying ahead. I pulled up to the school and went to sign in at the front office. As usual I was greeted by the office staff being welcomed to their school site. Each staff member had a school shirt on, instantly reminding me of how their school spirit was really taken serious which is awesome.

I was on my way to the classroom where I was shouted by my assigned instructor Mrs. Teacher. She screamed at me through the gym saying "Hey Ghostrider! Class is in here today." I walked over and was greeted by the class "Ghostrider, come play with us!" I went over to Mrs. Teacher who seemed to be a little relieved by her actions. She always is energetic and happy, but today she was calm and let the kids have a some what "free day" due to the fact that her classroom was in a portable and there was a problem with the gas line. So she decided to take her kids over and let them have a free day. The kids were playing basketball, I was immediately intrigued because that is my favorite sport and I love to play that game. Mrs. Teacher told me to go ahead and play with the kids so that I wouldn't waste my time there doing nothing.

I went over and the kids were playing against each other. It was more like half the class versus the other half of the class. I sat back and watched for a little while. You could see that the class knew each other very well. They knew who was the better player of the bunch and would try and give them the ball. The girls were just playing around making each other laugh. Other boys and girls were really into it but didn't know the game. I really liked how not one of the kids was bored, each and every one of them had fun.

As I was observing everyone have what seemed to be the time of their lives, I notice how the ball was thrown at me and the kids were all running to me. I dribbled the ball as best as I could. I had to be careful because I was dressed business professional and didn't have the right shoes. I laughed and made my way to the basket and scored the layup. Mr. Seahawk the athlete of the bunch came up to me and said "You're good at this huh Mr." I told him "I'm alright, I love basketball."

I played a little longer trying to get the kids involved as much as I could, and then I stopped and went with Mrs. Teacher. After catching my breath, I told her "It amazes me how they all get along and are having fun with each other, they have a good feel for each other and it shows." Mrs. Teacher said "Yes they do, they've known each other for quite some time and all like each other. Even though they have different personalities the blend really well." I was watching the kids help each other. If someone did something wrong, immediately some student would go help him or her with what they did wrong and corrected them in a positive way. There were no sore losers but positive attitudes all over the gym and I loved it. The girls were just as competitive as the boys, which was awesome. It was a time to take their mind off of their class and just be free, which was something I hadn't seen in them.

Observing each of the students were pretty tired as class was almost over, as I had said earlier, they mostly had school shirts on they look like a co ed basketball team. Mrs. Teacher brought them all together and said "You all make me proud, just because we didn't have class you learned things I bet you don't even realize." One students said "What do you mean Mrs.?". She answered "You learn to mesh with each other and help one another, now take that with you and use it in the classroom, you may not all know things the same but helping one another can benefit our class." It was a day of learning that the kids didn't even realize.
