Morning coffee

 Friday, September 11, 2014

9:12AM order iced coffee and sit down at table with four chairs. I spread my stuff on the table as to make it look like I am hard at work studying.

9:16  3 people in line to order 2 people waiting for their orders and 9 people sit scattered around the café.

There are three baristas this time unlike last time there were only two. Which is surprising to me because this time of day seems to be more laid back than any other time.

9:19 at the large table next to me in the center of the café the people sit on the end engaged in a light conversation. Two males one female. None of them over 30 years old. I am drawn to them first because they happen to be the loudest inhabitants in the café. Not in a bothersome way. Laughter escapes their huddle frequently lightening the already pleasant mood in the room.

9:22 the oldest person in the room looks to be about 45 to 50 years of age. After ordering he sat down in one of the comfy seats behind me next to the window. Letting the morning sun warm his arm. He reads the news paper.

9:24 the newspaper man gets up to retrieve his order from the bar. He grabs a pastry and a large iced coffee with cream. (What I ordered) back at his seat he discards the news paper and now is intently looking at his iphone while eating his muffin.

9:26 A steady flow of guests enter the café only to order and leave immediately, most of them young probably grabbing a morning stimulant for the class ahead.

9:29 It’s interesting. This early in the morning most people who have come here to work on something don’t seem to be frantically trying to finish a last minute project. Many of the studiers regularly check their phone for more than just a quick glance.

9:32 A boy with a gauge in his ear and a piercing in his eye brow talks sits and talks to a girl across from him. The girl has a tattoo sleave, and they share a pastry while she sips on water. Just as I’m noticing this quiet couple they get up together and leave together.

9:35 the weather is nice outside. The sun is out and it hasn’t reached an unbearable temperature yet. 5 people sit at the tables outside two pairs sit together and the 5th one alone.

9:36 the café suddenly become much quieter than is has been for the past 20minutes. I notice that the trio next to me that had been doing much of the talking throughout the time were now only two and quiet at work on their laptops. A Maroon 5 song quietly plays and the baristas rustling behind the counter blending drinks are now the make up of the background noise.

9:38 as the time approaches 10 o’clock I know its almost time for me to pack up and leave.

9:39 quick count
              FEMALE: 11

              MALE: 10
